The role
CIC is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) to evaluate and build a new company at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Science/Engineering. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of a high-growth venture with the backing of a prominent venture capital firm. The EIR will play a pivotal role in identifying promising research/IP, developing a compelling business plan, assembling a founding team, and ultimately launching a new company.
Responsibilities
- Market & Technology Assessment: Conduct thorough market research and technical due diligence to identify promising areas within AI for Science & Engineering, with a focus on potential for significant commercial impact.
- Opportunity Identification: Evaluate emerging technologies, academic research, and market trends to pinpoint specific opportunities for company creation.
- Business Plan Development: Develop a comprehensive business plan, including market analysis, competitive landscape assessment, value proposition, go-to-market strategy and funding requirements.
- Team Building: Identify and recruit key members of the founding team, including scientific advisors, technical experts, and business leaders.
- IP Strategy: Work with CIC and external legal counsel to develop a robust intellectual property strategy.
- Fundraising: Work with the CIC team to secure proof of concept and ultimately seed funding.
- Company Formation: Oversee the legal formation of the new company and establish initial operational processes.
- Ongoing Role: Become a senior founding member of the leadership team at the newly formed company.
Required qualifications / competencies
- Entrepreneurial or startup experience with a track record of building and scaling technology companies, ideally in a related field (e.g., AI, software, engineering, scientific development).
- Understanding of AI technologies (e.g., machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, natural language processing) and their potential applications in scientific and engineering domains.
- Strong network within the scientific, engineering, and technology communities.
- Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Undergraduate or Advanced degree (PhD) in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with the Cambridge ecosystem is a plus.
