Under the direction of the Deputy Chief Nurse (Director of Quality and Safety) the post holder will coordinate and lead the Trust’s patient safety, risk, Trust legal agenda . As outlined in the Trust Quality strategy, the post holder will also ensure that relevant patient safety, risk management and improvement initiatives are undertaken to enhance patient outcomes.
The post holder will manage the Patient Safety team, providing operational support to the divisions in delivering the quality agenda.
The post holder will act as a Patient Safety Specialist and an expert advisor on patient safety and risk management ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, national and local policy, responsible for ensuring that the patient safety agenda and risk management is embedded throughout the organisation by providing support, advice and guidance on all aspects of risk and patient safety.
The post holder will deliver direct advice to clinical services on patient safety and risk using current evidence to underpin advice and has responsibility for overseeing the Trust policy development processes.
The post holder will support the Trust legal services portfolio and work with the team to ensure the effective management of claims and Inquests.
The post holder will be responsible for leading on trustwide learning & improvement initiatives.
Work with the Deputy Chief Nurse (Director of Quality & Safety) and team to lead, manage and embed quality governance systems and reporting across the Trust.
Establish and maintain effective communications systems so that information can be shared, and effective problem-solving processes are implemented, ensuring there are good communication systems between the Patient Safety team, the organisation, and stakeholders.
Promote patient safety insight as an approach that incorporates an understanding all sources of patient safety intelligence to drive improvements in Safety
To agree and coordinate a robust programme of patient safety ‘Preventing Harm’ improvement activities to take place across the Trust.
Participate in regular ‘learning events’ to share good practice and learning from incidents and other risk management intelligence.
Lead the implementation of continuous improvement through the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) and supporting PSIRF Plan.
Oversee and support patient safety improvement, ensuring that systems thinking, human factors understanding and just culture principles are embedded in patient safety processes.
Ensure appropriate external reporting of incidents via the Learn from patient safety events (LFPSE) service (successor of NRLS).
Ensure compliance with the Trust Quality Strategy
