Your Main Responsibilities
- Depot Leadership: Act as the on-site lead for depot security and ensure all team members follow safe working practices.
- Team Supervision: Oversee daily operations, ensuring efficient servicing, maintenance, repair, and cleaning of vehicles and components.
- Workload Management: Plan and allocate tasks effectively, collaborating with Working Chargehands to meet performance targets.
- Compliance: Enforce adherence to Health & Safety regulations, quality procedures, and environmental standards.
- Resource Management: Ensure the availability of necessary parts, tools, and equipment for your team.
- Reporting & Communication: Maintain accurate work records, provide reports to the Engineering Manager, and conduct team briefings using Team Talk Boards.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify root causes of breakdowns and focus on improving fleet reliability through planned maintenance and reduced lost mileage.
- Cost Efficiency: Support the Engineering Manager in managing depot costs and enhancing team efficiency.
- Deputy Role: Serve as the site lead in the absence of the Engineering Manager.
What We’re Looking For
- Engineering Expertise: Strong background in heavy vehicle, equipment, or machinery maintenance and repair—preferably within the Bus/HGV industry.
- Qualifications: Completed a recognised apprenticeship, vocational qualification, or higher education in mechanical, electrical, or vehicle engineering disciplines.
- Health & Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with H&S best practices (IOSH qualification is a plus).
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to supervise teams, foster collaboration, and create a productive working environment.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure while maintaining high standards.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with staff and stakeholders.
- Union Collaboration: Experience working with Trade Union representatives is advantageous.
