The Role
Working within the accounts department and reporting to the Finance Manager, your responsibilities will include overall management of the sales ledger function, continual improvement, and training new department members to ensure a high level of standards is maintained.
The role will also involve providing administrative support for the general management of the business and assisting the finance team with other financial and commercial tasks.
This high-profile role involves interaction with financial and non-financial people across the business at all levels. Attention to detail, flexibility, and a can-do attitude are prerequisites for this role.
The Billing Supervisor's role is to ensure client invoices are raised in accordance with the firm’s billing protocols. You will be the designated expert on SRA requirements and VAT Regulations. You must collaborate closely with our partners and broader finance teams to provide all involved with a seamless and ‘right-first-time’ billing experience.
Responsibilities
- Managing the practice's sales ledger function, ensuring that it is robust and delivers high-quality service to the Partners.
- Review processes to look for marginal improvements and own the department's Statement of Practices (SOPs).
- Overseeing recruitment and training of new team members, ensuring that quality is maintained.
- Monitoring the sales ledger inbox to allocate the workload amongst the staff and to determine which requests to prioritise.
- Manage e-billing, LEDES billing, and similar requests.
- Monitor all customer billing platforms for information requests and responses to billing and take appropriate action.
- Deal with complex billing enquiries that come into the department.
- Preparation of reconciliations, reports, and ad hoc information as requested.
- Undertake any further work, tasks, or projects reasonably requested by the Finance Manager or Assistant Accountant. Complete them to the required standards and within agreed timescales.
The Person
Experience
- Experience in a legal billing supervisory role is required.
- Knowledge and experience of the operation of a legal services business is highly desirable, as is knowledge of the SRA Accounts Rules.
- A strong VAT knowledge is necessary to support our international client base.
- Prior experience with 3E billing (desirable).
- LEDES and E-Billing portal experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
