The role:

We are looking for a Business Analyst to join our team at a time when we are transforming how technology supports our business to improve our client experience, increase profitability and improve personal productivity.

This key user facing role within the IT department will be responsible for capturing, analysing & documenting business processes and requirements, working with stakeholders to determine the priority of requirements based on value to the business, defining the scope of the change activity, and then working with both users and IT staff to guarantee the change activity meets the business needs.

The role will be closely aligned to our developing Knowledge Management function helping to support the suite of projects delivering knowledge and know how to the firm over the next few years, and longer term working to identify improvements in processes and technologies to support the adoption and embedding of knowledge management. Outside of Knowledge Management business analysis will be required across multiple projects in many different areas of the business.

This role forms part of the IT Business Consultancy group which includes Business Partnering, Digital Adoption and Project Management. The team interacts with lawyers and legal services as well as business services and has a firmwide presence.

What will you do:

Scoping:

  • Work with project sponsors, the IT leadership team and the wider engaged stakeholder community to gain a detailed understanding of the mandatory and desired outcomes of project/change activities; capture and maintain the associated requirements log.
  • Support the development of options for the range of technical solutions available to meet the project brief.
  • Make solution recommendations based on fit, technical feasibility and cost analysis.
  • Ensure solutions follow the guidance laid out by the Architecture function, most notably when making choices between ‘off-the-shelf’/standardised and ‘internally developed’/bespoke and ensuring they fit to Simmons & Simmons long term IT objectives.
  • Develop testing and performance measurement/quality plans with the Testing team that enable the measurement of if the solution delivered is fit for purpose and meets the brief.


Delivering:

  • Capturing, analysing & documenting business requirements
  • Working with key stakeholders to determine the priority of requirements
  • Working with stakeholders during the design, build and test phases to ensure the solution meets the needs of the business
  • Take accountability for highlighting issues, engaging the team to find solutions and ensuring that the necessary remedial action is pursued.
  • Provide input into all relevant project and departmental documentation as required to ensure the solution can be maintained and supported in-life; actively support the training team in developing the necessary training for both IT and end-user audiences.
  • Contribute to the Business Analysis Centre of Excellence, reviewing documentation, templates and standards so that the firm can easily engage with Business Analysis and the project lifecycle.


What we are looking for:

  • Minimum foundation level certification in Business Analysis
  • Able to work with user groups to break down loosely defined requirements into actionable facts that define the success of the project.
  • Understanding of Knowledge Management in the legal sector and the IT applications and supporting infrastructure, around Knowledge Management products.
  • Effective at building and sustaining relationships across all levels of the organisation, both within IT and beyond.
  • Credible in relaying detailed information to a non-expert audience in a manner that creates action and gets results.
  • Experience in acting as a point of reference to a delivery team, confident in working and negotiating with technical experts to ensure the project’s mandate is achieved.
  • Experience of various tools and techniques applicable to breaking down problems, formulating solutions, and tracking and prioritising risks and issues.
  • (Desirable) A good understanding of project lifecycle methodologies such as Prince 2 and Agile
  • Exposure to and understanding of legal technologies an advantage
  • Able to work effectively as part of a diverse and inclusive team.
  • Able to develop professional relationships through diverse networks.
  • Flexibility and a willingness to work additional hours on occasion as required.
