Purpose of the role
To support the Future Data Platform Lead to gather requirements for the POL’s Future Data Platform (FDP) within AWS and support business teams migrating their data onto the FDP.
The aim of the role is to assess processes, articulate requirements, produce documentation and provide powerful insights to enable relevant stakeholders to make the right decisions.
Working closely with the Future Data Platform Lead and the FDP Data Architecture Lead, the Business Analyst ensures that Data platform is clearly defined and understood. This allows for the necessary analysis of requirements, scope and objectives in order to ensure the successful delivery of outcomes in alignment with overall business strategy.
The business analyst will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between our stakeholders and the technical team by understanding business needs, gathering requirements, and ensuring successful stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle. They will also be key during the legacy migration phase of the FDP, collating the ‘as is’ picture of how data is used within Legacy systems, and how it should look once migrated into the cloud.
Principal accountabilities
- Engage with Post Office teams to understand their current data usage, needs, goals, and challenges.
- Produce documentation of the business use cases for the FDP and provide recommendations for use case prioritisation to the FDP lead.
- Work with the FDP Lead to scope and understand potential funding avenues for the project by engaging with business teams.
- Support the FDP lead and FDP Data Architect to create the business plan for the FDP, in particular in assessing the potential timeliness for the project, risks and use case selection.
- Conduct comprehensive requirement gathering sessions with stakeholders to elicit, analyse, and prioritise business needs.
- Translate business requirements into clear, concise user stories for the technical team.
- Collaborate with technical team members to ensure alignment between business requirements and technical implementation.
- Lead the migration efforts to move existing legacy data systems onto the Cloud Data Platform.
- Support the FDP Data architect to assess the current data landscape and identify migration strategies.
- Assess the current use of legacy systems, produce documentation such as data flow diagrams to support with the design of the data migration process.
- Conduct regular meetings, workshops, and presentations to gather feedback, communicate project progress, and manage expectations.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvement and translate them into actionable requirements.
