The Business Development Manager will execute the sector-wide business development strategy, under the direction of the BDD and the I&L Sector Leadership team, in conjunction with the Pre-Construction Management Team. The role focuses on building and strengthening relationships with key clients, project managers, PQS's, and supply chain partners to enhance knowledge of future opportunities and increase the success rate of tender submissions in the Build Sector.
- Execute the client engagement plan by aligning our capabilities with target client needs, creating a tailoredoffering for each client.
- Develop Key Account Management (KAM) strategies for target clients, tracking long-term tender opportunitiesto predict potential turnover. Act as a facilitator, providing thought leadership while enabling senior businessprincipals to maintain key relationships.
- Expedite and maintain regular contact with key professionals identified in the sector. Schedule follow-upmeetings during initial contact to ensure consistent engagement. Capture individual profiles, includingpersonal interests and potential business risks, and develop mitigation strategies.
- Engage actively with agents to understand market trends, create a geographic heat map of current andupcoming sites, and align our service area accordingly.
- Dedicate a minimum of three days per week to client-facing activities, aiming for multiple meetings per day.
- Prioritize face-to-face meetings with clients, PMs/QSs, and design teams. Supplement with phone discussionsas needed, with follow-up actions confirmed via email. Bring in business principals at strategic moments,allowing them to focus on core responsibilities.
- Manage the opportunity pipeline in collaboration with the sector team, prioritizing opportunities aligned withour business goals. Evaluate potential projects based on value, team fit, competitive landscape, and our abilityto add unique value beyond cost.
- For all priority bids (P1), develop a comprehensive Win Plan, ensuring we have established relationships withkey stakeholders before bidding. Coordinate with BDD for pre-bid preparation and set realistic expectations forboth upstream and downstream teams.
- Create and circulate detailed file notes after meetings, summarizing market insights, opportunities, bidfeedback, and next steps. Distribute to Senior Directors (SDs), BDD, and the Pre-Construction Director.
- Lead the Bid/No-Bid process, aligning potential projects with the business plan and selection criteria. Forqualified opportunities reaching the 25% stage, produce a Bid/No-Bid form with a detailed project overview,risk assessment, and recommendation. Obtain approval from SD, BDD, and the Pre-Construction Director.
