About the role
Balfour Beatty is currently recruiting a Electrical CAD Technician to join the Power T&D team. in Newcastle.
The main function of the role is to carry out HV plant layout designs for electrical substation projects up to a voltage of 400kV.
You will need to have experience in AutoCAD 2D / Revit and Working on BIM360 environment.
We are open to both full time and part time candidates (including job share) and offer a flexible working
What you'll be doing
Key accountabilities:
- Develop the HV substation design deliverables e.g. single line diagram, layout/Elevation drawings, MEWP access layouts, earthing layout design etc in AutoCAD 2D and BIM model.
- Develop the design to the Customer specification requirements, ensuring compliance with relevant National / International Standards and legislation.
- Produce the design work with due regard to Health & Safety Procedures and the Company’s obligations in compliance with current CDM regulations. Any perceived risks and mitigation measures should be advised to Project Manager for effective action.
Key Responsibilities:
- To deliver to the design department the satisfactory production of single line diagram, layout/Elevation drawings, MEWP access layouts, earthing layout design etc in AutoCAD 2D and BIM model.
- Very good working knowledge of AUTOCAD 2D, Revit and BIM models.
- Identify all relevant standards and Customer requirements, ensuring compliance with relevant National / SSE/International Standards and legislation, and contract specification.
- Design work to be undertaken with due regard to Health, Safety & Environmental Procedures and production of Designer Risk Assessments, as necessary, to fulfil the Company’s obligations in compliance with current CDM regulations.
- Understand the requirements of contract documents and liaise with Senior/ Principal Design engineers as necessary to agree design requirements.
- Be part of a team to deliver project specific drawings at a high standard and accuracy in accordance to client specification and BIM requirements & across all departments.
- Must be proactive with ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team, be willing and able to share technical ability, knowledge to other members of the team whilst being keen to learn new skill sets.
- Receive “As Installed” site markup drawings and documentation and ensure accurate final records are prepared and submitted to client in line with the requirements of the contract specification.
Highlight any design issues to the Principal /Lead Engineer proposing any possible solution for review
Who we're looking for
Education:
- Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Experience:
- 2 years’ experience in substation layout design.
- AutoCAD 2D / Revit Experience is mandatory.
- Working on BIM360 environment.
- Microsoft Office Packages.
