This is an exciting opportunity to join Grace Garden School across both our sites as a Catering Teacher where you will work pedagogically with the children providing practical, experiential and therapeutic education and helping pupils to cook using organic and biodynamic produce grown in the grounds of Grace Garden School. The sessions will focus on the seed to table curriculum and embrace the RMT Food and Nutrition Policy.
The qualifications, skills and experiences that we are looking for are:
• Full teaching qualification or equivalent experience
• Experience or willingness to work with the Trust’s Food and Nutrition policy.
• Knowledge of Rudolf Steiner Holistic Education with particular reference to the works and insights of John Ruskin and William Morris
• A team player with experience of teaching with young people with SEND
• Adaptable and shows initiative
• High level of personal resilience
• Excellent communication skills and high levels of emotional intelligence.
The Key duties of this role will be:
• To work in conjunction with the school leadership team to ensure that the seed to table methodology is fully embedded within the curriculum for students’ cookery.
• To work collaboratively with HEaRT to embed the Trust’s Food and Nutrition policy and plan effective staff training.
• To actively promote the consistent use of biodynamic/organic produce.
• To be responsible for implementing, monitoring and managing food safety.
• To create an appropriate learning environment to support the learning and development needs of individual students, as well as groups of students.
• To develop both staff and students’ skills in respect of bread and cheese making with a focus on sourdough
breads, preserves, pickles and ferments.
