Description
A golden opportunity for a commercial property lawyer looking for a Bristol based role that's just a little different. You're most likely at the NQ or relatively early stages of your qualified career, looking to join a Top 100 UK law firm that's going from strength to strength.
About Us
We're a Top 100, full-service UK law firm with around 560 employees. With 4 offices in Bristol, Birmingham, London and Watford, you'll be struck by our close-knit and friendly culture. We believe in integrity and authenticity- in each one of us being ourselves both in our interactions with each other as well as with our clients. With a reputation not just for the quality of our work, but also for the qualities of our people, we strive to recruit individuals who are proactive and passionate about what they do and able to demonstrate humour and humility in equal measure.
Our role
Sitting within our wider real estate department, our commercial property team is at the very heart of our firm. This role presents an opportunity to develop a specialism that continues to thrive, whilst working with a supportive and close knit team of lawyers who will support you every step of the way.
Working within our fantastic team of property healthcare lawyers, led by Bristol based Partner, Ben Willis, you'll enjoy using all the skills you've acquired to date, including landlord and tenant matters, site acquisition, funding and ownership issues. However, this time you're advising a client base that truly values your help and will value your ability to propose solutions in a straightforward way. As such, you'll find the work to be rewarding and relish the fact that no two days are the same.
Here at VWV, we're renowned for ensuring our lawyers gain excellent exposure to client work, from the very start of their career, and in this way, you'll feel valued from your very first day.
About You
First and foremost, you'll be a bright and engaging individual with strong grounding in commercial property and an equally strong sense of commerciality. You'll ideally have gained exposure to a wide variety of commercial property work and are now excited by the prospect of specialising more in one area. Whilst some exposure to healthcare work would be preferred, we certainly don't expect you to have worked in this sector. If you're bright, enthusiastic and willing to learn, then we'd love to hear from you.
As a team, we pride ourselves on developing long term working relationships with our clients. Due to the technical nature of some of our work, strong communication skills and the ability to empathise with our clients, are qualities that will stand you in good stead for this role.
Here at VWV, we recognise that each one of us is an individual. We are passionate about creating an inclusive workplace that promotes and values diversity. If you require any special adjustments to be made in order to be considered for this role, then please do call us (see contact details in the "How to Apply" section below), as we will be happy to do so.
Our team and reputation
Our team is growing with a number of recent internal recruits and is part of a key growth area for the firm. On a day to day basis, you'll be working closely with our Legal Director, Rebecca Beardsley, as well as two Bristol based Partners and a team of healthcare specialists, many of whom are based in Bristol.
Our healthcare team has a formidable reputation both regionally and nationally and, as it has been for many years, is ranked Band 1 in the 'Partnerships Medical' section of Chambers and Partners 2024 (Chambers) within the UK as a whole.
As regards our property related healthcare expertise, Chambers once again highlights Ben Willis as a Notable Practitioner and the Legal 500 (2024) recognises Gemma Pouncy (Partner), together with Ben, as a Notable Practitioner.
Where will I be working?
At VWV we have a truly unique and engaging culture that we hold dear. We work hard but we also love to have fun and we recognise that it's the social interaction between us that really shapes our culture. Whilst we operate a hybrid model of working, for this role we would like you to work from our newly refurbished Bristol office on a very regular basis. In this way, you'll benefit first-hand from our warm and friendly culture as well as facilitate cross referral opportunities from your colleagues in other teams. We are of course happy to discuss any specific requirements of hybrid working with candidates on an individual basis.
How To Apply
Whilst we're known for our friendly and welcoming culture, we know that making the next career move can be daunting. And we've all been there!
It's more than likely you'll have one or two questions on the role or firm before you might feel happy to apply.
