Communications Associate - 12 Month (Undergraduate Placement)
We are looking for an enthusiastic Communications Undergraduate Associate to join our team at Illumina, Europe. Based in Cambridge UK, you will provide support across all our communications activity – press office, events, social media, internal communication, and you’ll be joining a company that will offer you rewarding, challenging work and a chance to make a difference. Our mission is to help improve human health by unlocking the power of the genome. Whether it’s a PR launch, liaising with senior leaders, or coming up with ideas for a creative media pitch, it goes without saying that you should be a strong team player that thrives on a fast-paced environment and has strong attention to detail - this is a job as much about fun as hard work.
You must be studying at a UK university to apply for this position.

The role
This role is a 12-month internship staring in July 2025, finishing July 2026. Based at our offices in Granta Park, Cambridge. Our programme focuses on meaningful project work, professional and personal development, in addition to providing networking opportunities.
Role And Responsibilities
As our Communications Associate you will have a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of communications within a global leader in the scientific and healthcare space. You’ll work across the breadth of our teams across our Europe business, developing stories to serve internal and external communications. Your ability to interview, write and communicate in an engaging passionate way will be key, as well as a talent for identifying great stories to celebrate success and help support recognition of colleagues.
- Preferred experience and qualifications
- Preferred Educational Background: Undergraduate ideally journalism or PR based (or similar)
- Outstanding listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of colleagues at all levels
- Efficient time management skills with the ability to stay focused on primary business objectives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently, using own initiative.
