Job Introduction
An opportunity has become available for a Communications Engineer based in Nottingham reporting to the Telecoms Operations Team Manager (East & West Midlands).
The Communications Engineer will be responsible for the installation, commissioning and maintenance of our Telecoms & SCADA Networks in the East Midlands, working with our Network Management Centre (NMC), Design and Commercial teams to deliver a reliable, resilient and secure solution in a fast and evolving space.
*Please note the successful candidate may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.
Main Responsibilities
You’ll be hands-on, responsible for managing your own time to achieve targets set by the business and our customers, working on the Telecoms & SCADA networks that primarily supports the Control and Visibility of the high-voltage electricity network. You will:
The Ideal Candidate
You will ideally have experience as a Telecoms Engineer, so you'll have an understanding of our Network Elements. If you haven’t worked with us before, then you’ll have an appreciation of the electrical network we support – perhaps you’ve worked in Safety Critical environments before. Strong communication skills are key, so you can coordinate jobs and clearly explain issues. As you’ll be in control of your diary, we’ll need you to be resilient, organised and able to prioritise your workload. Team players thrive in this role, and you’ll have experience using iPads, computers and our additional software.
To apply, you’ll ideally have experience with DWDM, IP, MPLS, SDH, PDH and Microwave equipment. You should be committed to providing outstanding customer service and have an ability to communicate well with both colleagues and customers.
Ideally qualified to BTEC or equivalent in Telecommunications or Electrical Engineering or have extensive relevant experience. however applications are also encouraged from individuals that are able to demonstrate that they have a technical background and the motivation to make a success of this opportunity. The successful applicant will be required to undertake standby duties in accordance with an agreed rota.
