Key Purpose of the Job:
Redefine Originals is ramping up for another original Feature Animation film and we are looking for talented visual development/character artists to help bring their unique voice to the artistic look of this film.
Our Concept Artist works closely with our Art Director, Production Designers & Surfacing Supervisor to provide a high standard of creative & technical artwork to give to the Character & Environmental modelling and surfacing team. You & the Conceptual Art team will be vital to the production teams, such as modelling, surfacing & lighting’s development. You will work alongside the Art Director to produce an array of callouts & artwork for the Production Designer & Director. You will also be collaborating with other departments such as the Production Designer, Modelling, Surfacing & Lighting department to provide development artwork.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Create surfacing, shading, texture, colour key and lighting key callouts to guide how downstream departments have to create textures for assets.
- Create mood pieces and other visual development assets.
- Create illustration quality key art production paintings.
- Communicating with Production and Leads regarding schedules and deadlines, Hitting set deadlines while maintaining the highest standards of work.
- Generate & present rough concepts to explore new designs within the style of the show.
- Ability to take linesketch through to finish painting.
- Generate environment concepts and potentially build orthographic/plan-views for the set
- Reworking material while maintaining a fresh perspective when taking on feedback.
- Communicating progress of work to Production Staff and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Organising and backing up artwork files appropriately.
- Flagging any production schedule delays with Production Staff with as much notice as possible.
- Work closely with the Art Director Production Designer for each task to help achieve a consistent vision.
- Propose ideas for what the animated world should look like based on the story, characters, and action.
Requirements:
- 3 - 4 years of Animated Production experience or equivalent/relevant experience.
- Strong artistic skills.
- A great eye for details, and grasp the concepts of composition, color, perspective and scale.
- Advanced Photoshop Skills & 2D Artwork Software (3D software a plus).
- Creative problem-solving abilities and a passion for working with a group of artists.
- Ability to create high profile illustrations for a variety of purposes including but not limited to key art, surfacing & shading callouts.
- Knowledge of and ability to integrate fundamental painting techniques and tools into artwork.
- Experience in turntable assets, such as props/ vehicles is a plus but not necessary.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills across departments.
- Ability to translate a thorough understanding of colour, composition, detail, texture and lighting into designs and/or paintings
- Professional aptitude for time management in prioritising multiple tasks & delivering within a deadline.
- The candidate should demonstrate a strong design and/or paint foundation to execute on the creative vision of development shows.
- You should be open to direction and able to embrace change.
