The opportunity
Leonardo UK is pushing the technical boundaries associated with advanced tactical sensing, data fusion, communications, machine learning and defensive aids systems and this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to play a fundamental role in our Business execution as a Lead Configuration Engineer.
As an experienced Lead Configuration Engineer, preferably within the Defence and Aerospace Sector; you will be required to discharge the 5 key Configuration activities into IPT’s (Integrated Project Teams) across all lifecycle phases of a Programme. Within this role, you shall give clear direction into the IPT on C&DM process and tools be that at System Requirements, System level, Software, modelling or hardware. In doing so, you must be prepared to ‘challenge the norm’ and support the IPT’s in process tailoring to fit the lifecycle phase and/or context of a Programme
What You’ll Do As a Lead Configuration Engineer
Drive a pro-active approach into IPT’s
Create a culture of encouraging new ideas and innovative solutions into the IPT and the Line of Business. (LoB)
Manage the team to deliver agreed Work packages into the IPT to cost and schedule
Act as a coach and mentor
Resolve C&DM issues within an IPT by making proposals and driving through solutions
Provide a C&DM Basis of Estimate (BoE) into Work packages
Build and manage Customer and Supplier relationships
Demonstrate self-management and development of self and others
Provide C&DM input to Business wide Process Improvement initiatives
Provide C&DM training to all disciplines within an IPT as required
Develop and promote knowledge and use of PLM and associated Engineering tools
Provide Configuration and data Management input to Design Reviews and Product Certification
Conduct performance reviews of your direct reports
Provide input into wider Engineering initiatives from a C&DM perspective e.g. Digital Engineering
Work hand-in-hand with our engineering delivery teams to ensure the Project dataset is maintained and configuration controlled
What We Need From You
You really must have
A good understanding of Configuration Management in accordance with DEF STAN 05-57.
Excellent practical understanding of the five key elements of Configuration Management
Configuration Management Planning including generation and review of CM Plan
Configuration Identification
Change Control – Must have had experience in operating Change Control Boards including Configuration status input to the Board
Configuration Status Accounting with emphasis on the generation of Configuration Baselines
Verification and Audit (led FCA/PCA)
Experience in line management of your own team including coaching and mentoring, performance reviews, providing ongoing support to meet the business objectives
Configuration Management experience in the development of Safety critical products
Use of Product Management Tools (essential) - Teamcenter version 13 (Unified) and SAP. (Desired)
Strong Administration Skills with an attention to detail
It would be nice if you had
Experience of and practical application of CM2 methodology
Security Clearance
