About The Role
A vacancy has arisen for a Controls & Instrumentation (C&I) Design Engineer to join our Engineering team. The successful candidate will apply key technical skills to the design, development and implementation of Control and Instrumentation systems to enable the successful delivery of Vital Energi’s projects and programmes across the UK. They will lead and take full ownership of medium to large scale work packages associated with Energy Management and Control Systems, from conception to delivery, often with complex control strategies.
Key responsibilities
- Leading medium to large scale projects on Energy Control Systems, from concept through to detailed design
- Serving as technical lead for design and implementation of control and safety systems.
- Preparing plans and estimates for tender proposals
- Raising TQ’s against project specifications
- Producing system documentation including system architecture, control philosophies, ladder logic and control system software specifications.
- Assessing and capture project requirements, developing design proposal
- Attending HAZOP assessments, design reviews and project meetings
- Providing engineering support during construction and commissioning
- Mentoring junior engineers and providing technical guidance to the design team
What you will need
- Degree qualified – preferably in an Electrical/Electronic/Control Engineering discipline – or equivalent
- Full UK manual driving licence
- Experience in SCADA and PLC systems design (Essential)
- Working knowledge of control system protocols i.e., Modbus, MBUS, BACnet, PROFINET, Ethernet (Essential)
- Understanding of EC&I drawings and documentation i.e., SLDs, P&IDs, C&Es, Schematics etc. (Essential)
- Understanding of Mechanical, HVAC & Electrical systems. (Essential)
- Knowledge of safe working practices and procedures, with experience of assisting with preparing safety documentation i.e. Risk assessments, method statements, permits, isolations etc (Essential)
- Control system definition from concept to detailed design and specification. (Essential)
- Experience with Allen Bradley, Siemens and/or Schneider PLC systems (Desirable)
- BMS systems design and implementation knowledge (Desirable)
- Experience of AVEVA Edge, WinCC and EcoStruxure Geo proprietary SCADA applications (Desirable)
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) (Desirable)
- Experience with renewable energy technologies such as Solar PV Systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), combined Heat and Power (CHP), Boilers – gas, electric and biomass, District Heating, Air, Water and Ground Source Heat pumps. (Desirable)
- Experience with Electrical Grid Engineering requirements/recommendations such as G99 & G100 (Desirable)
- System commissioning experience (Desirable)
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Confident manner, with ability to work to deadlines, while remaining focused
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
