We’re accepting applications for a Database Administrator to support our Oracle database and report server. This role is critical to a project aimed at upgrading the database and report server to newer versions, ensuring a stable and reliable platform. This position is essential for maintaining compliance, preventing operational disruptions, enhancing security, and avoiding project delays.
This is a hybrid working opportunity requiring a minimum of one day per week onsite in Cardiff on Thursdays. We operate Flexible Working Hours, with our core hours between 10am-12pm and 2pm-3pm (our office is open from 7am-7pm, Monday to Thursday).

About The Job
Situated within the IT applications team in the Cardiff office, this role is hands-on and designed for an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) with a profound grasp of database technology, capable of both independent work and effective collaboration within a team. The position entails responsibility for maintaining the availability, performance, security, deployment, and day-to-day support of our company’s Oracle and MS Azure SQL databases. Close collaboration with other technical teams and stakeholders is essential to formulate and execute database strategies that align with our business applications and systems. The critical databases managed by this role are used by internal and external stakeholders worldwide and need to be secure and stable and meet end user needs. This post requires extensive liaison with other staff in the IT department and 3rd party suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform database administrative duties across a variety of different O/S platforms
- Maintain a high level of availability of all databases as required by the business
- Perform duties relating to these databases (upgrades, migrations, monitoring, patching, cloning) and server management (minimal administration to ensure expected functionality)
- Act as a trusted consultant to internal and external development teams and IT management, making recommendations for improvements when identified
- Provide out of hours support (production and support environments as a minimum), open to weekend deployments for releases and database patching as needed
- Install, create, and maintain all databases and ensure they maintain acceptable levels of performance, integrity, and security in line with agreed organisational standards and industry best practice
- Proactively review metrics, address potential database performance, and backup concerns
- System monitoring and troubleshooting issues in a timely manner to ensure provision of services within Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
- Ensure that production releases are stable, and all change management, upgrade and other relevant processes are clearly documented
About You
Essential requirements
- Significant experience of supporting databases using Oracle 12c/19c in different environments
- Familiarity Weblogic 12 or Oracle Analytics Publisher (formerly BI Publisher) and report writing and conversion from Oracle forms & reports 10g
- Familiarity with Oracle's migration tool to automate the conversion of Oracle Reports to Analytics Publisher
- Expertise in designing RTF, Excel, and XSL template
- Familiarity with additional database technologies, like AZURE SQL Server
- Excellent understanding of Oracle High Availability and Failover (Data Guard), along with RAC & physical standby troubleshooting
- Proficiency in backup & Recovery scenarios using RMAN
- Experience in database health checking and performance tuning, e.g., AWR/ADDM
- Experience with tools like EM Cloud Control 13c, expdp/impdp
- Thorough understanding of optimisation and performance tuning
- Excellent understanding of Oracle Objects encompassing PL/SQL, packages, procedures, functions, triggers, etc
- Good understanding of Solaris OS Shell scripting

- Please note that in September 2025 our Cardiff Office will be relocate to Fusion Point One, Dumballs Road, Cardiff, CF10 5BF. The building is a 5-minute walk from Cardiff Central Station and a 10-minute walk to the city centre. Our new offices will have 60 parking spaces available which will be reservable online.
