The Water Consultancy Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to water and wastewater challenges, offering fantastic opportunities to get involved in diverse and technically challenging work. Overview Of Role
As DCO Engineering Design Lead you will work on a major water project to ensure that the engineering and design meets the Development Consent Order (DCO) requirements. This is a very exciting time to join our Water & Environment team as we have had significant success winning work on major water projects and water company frameworks for AMP8. You will be part of major water project engineering delivery teams developing the design for the DCO application and examination. You will be working in a collaborative environment which strives for continuous improvement. The role offers an excellent progression route within the business and the opportunity to make a difference in the water sector, delivering long lasting customer, social and environmental benefits.
Our water team is working with clients to develop water supply schemes of national importance across the UK. Ranging from new large scale open water storage reservoirs to pipeline transfers and treatment schemes with planning permission required through the DCO process . Our work includes options appraisal and technical feasibility assessments, design development and costing, as well as environmental assessments, procurement advice and development of complex tender documents. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated DCO Engineering Design Lead to contribute to the successful delivery of major water projects throughout the project lifecycle. We need a talented individual to support the delivery of the project’s consenting strategy working collaboratively with the DCO planning delivery team.
The role will depend on your experience and interests but is likely to include:
- Design leadership for our project delivery teams to deliver the appropriate level of engineering detail needed for public consultations, statutory Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and DCO consultations
- Client facing technical leadership engagement with key stakeholders
- Support to engineering, project leadership and DCO planning teams during the project development phase
- Supporting the project teams during the DCO examination stage
- Undertaking technical mentoring role within projects, developing more junior team members
- Working with project managers and project principals to ensure commercial success of projects.
Candidate specification
Responsibilities
We are looking for a driven individual, demonstrating leadership and strong communication skills, keen to develop, take wide responsibilities and progress professionally. In addition, you should ideally have :
- Relevant technical degree
- Chartership with an appropriate professional body
- Proven track record in developing engineering and design for major infrastructure projects
- Experience of successful delivery of major projects through the DCO or other consenting regimes, such as Transport and Works Act Order or Parliamentary Bill
- Significant experience in technical coordination including stakeholder engagement and EIA strategies
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of the water and wastewater industry in the UK or other regulated industry
- Project management and leadership experience
- Proven track record in winning work
- Aptitude for digital innovation and driving efficiency
- Experience in guiding and mentoring junior staff
