The role
CIC is seeking an Analyst or Associate to join our DeepTech investment team. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to gain hands-on experience in venture capital, working alongside experienced investors to identify and evaluate promising investment opportunities in Deeptech (primarily focussed on the Future of Compute - Semiconductors, AI/ML, Software/Compute Infrastructure, Robotics and Quantum). The successful candidate will play a key role in developing investment theses, conducting due diligence, and supporting deal execution. The specific title (Analyst or Associate) will be determined based on the candidate's experience level.
Responsibilities
- Market Research & Thesis Development: Conduct in-depth market research and competitive analysis to identify emerging trends and develop investment theses in specific Deeptech sectors (see above). This includes:
- Analysing market size, growth potential, and competitive dynamics
- Identifying key technological advancements and disruptive innovations
- Mapping out relevant ecosystems and key players
- Deal Sourcing & Screening: Support the identification and screening of potential investment opportunities through various channels, including:
- Attending industry events, conferences, and academic presentations
- Networking with entrepreneurs, academics, and industry experts.
- Reviewing inbound investment proposals
- Due Diligence: Conduct thorough due diligence on potential investments, including:
- Analysing business plans, financial models, and market data
- Conducting technical and commercial due diligence
- Interviewing industry experts
- Preparing investment memos and presentations for the investment committee.
- Portfolio Support: Support the monitoring and management of existing portfolio companies, including:
- Financial Modelling: Develop and maintain financial models to evaluate investment opportunities and assess potential returns
- Internal Reporting: Contribute to internal reporting and analysis on investment activity and market trends
Required qualifications / competencies
- Analyst Level: At least Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., Computer Science or Electrical Engineering). Strong academic record. Prior internship or work experience across entrepreneurship, finance, consulting, or a related field is a plus.
- Associate Level: At least Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., Computer Science or Electrical Engineering). Experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, consulting, or a related field. Experience in a relevant Deeptech sector is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills. Training on financial modelling and valuation methodologies can be provided.
- Strong research and information gathering skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interest in Deeptech.
- Familiarity with the Cambridge ecosystem is a plus.
