About Our Industry and Buildings Business Line:

Our industry and buildings business line in the UK blends the skills of two operational groups, environmental consultancy and engineering design. We provide expert and specialist consultancy services within the built environment with target sectors including logistics, manufacturing, mission critical facilities, offshore wind and ports. We pride ourselves on adoption of a data driven design approach enabling us to automate the boring and engineer the awesome.

About Our Design & Delivery Team

You will be joining our integrated project delivery business, working as part of the Design and Project Management team. You will have responsibility for a project, or number of projects, working with one of our business lines to help provide expertise in project delivery.

Our project teams are constantly looking for opportunities to improve our delivery, in terms of automation and innovation and you will be part of this process, constantly looking for opportunities across our projects. You will work closely with the design engineers and technicians both internal and sometimes external depending on the complexity of the project.

Our main design offices are in Birmingham and Peterborough but you could be working on projects in any part of Europe and further afield and be required to visit sites and liaise with our clients directly.

We create and analyse data and feedback from our project teams and clients in order to learn lessons and incorporate these into the next project and you will have a key role to play in this process.

What You Will Do As Senior Design Manager

  • Manage and deliver the design output for medium to large complex design projects
  • Form relationships with clients, internal teams, stakeholders and third-party specialists
  • Manage design teams and achieve technically correct and co-ordinated designs on programme, and within agreed budget
  • Provide design support and aid with problem solving during co-ordination meetings
  • Design manage communications upstream to the client, and downstream to the team as appropriate;
  • Design manage documentation to support the delivery of designs (project management plan, programme, RFI register, risk and opportunities register etc.)
  • Support the growth of RHDHV where appropriate by developing relationships with clients and engaging in business development for new and repeat business

The candidate will also be expected to carry out the following functions:

  • Deliver technically complete and co-ordinated designs to programme deadlines;
  • Oversee quality and checking processes for designs;
  • Lead design concepts and design reviews on projects;
  • Lead progress review meetings on projects;
  • Lead RFI and design change control processes on projects;
  • Lead value engineering reviews on projects;
  • Assist with the commercial control over design projects;
  • Assist the Project Management team to promote Design Management within the business;
  • Provide mentoring to less senior Design Managers;
  • Support the positive culture in order to promote a satisfied Client and ensure repeat business;

What you bring

  • Ideally, the candidate will have experience in a relative design discipline whether Architectural, Civil/Structural or Building Services;
  • Relevant degree in a design discipline;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior Design Management role;
  • Understanding of 2015 CDM regulations;
  • Understanding of project programming (MS Project/Primavera);
  • NEC contract knowledge is preferable;
  • The candidate must be able to show a detailed understanding of complex building design and site wide infrastructure involving Civils, Transport, MEP.
  • Thorough knowledge of the planning and permitting process applied to complex projects
  • Good design management skills including developing client brief, RACI and deliverables schedules.
  • Proven experience of running teams in a BIM environment and be able to promote DWOW.
  • A working knowledge of Revit would be preferable;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Good interpersonal/social skills;
  • Construction experience with evidence of contractor liaison;
  • Excellent report writing skills including experience in preparing client presentations.
