Development/Engineering/Delivery Manager

Open to most GTUK locations outside of London

As a Development (Engineering) Manager you will contribute across the development lifecycle using your technical and delivery experience to help development teams to define, design and build innovative solutions that digitise our internal operations and client service delivery. You will report to the Chief Technology Officer.

A look into the role

As a Development Manager you will:


  • Be responsible for ensuring business problems and requirements are understood, collaborating with and supporting development teams to design and build solutions that solve and meet these.
  • Oversee project and development timelines coordinating with stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of solutions, applications, and products, focusing on meeting agreed business outcomes and value expectations.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team culture, providing mentorship, and identifying opportunities for improvement in our ways of working while ensuring high quality and appropriate governance.
  • Support technical discussions with business stakeholders to help developers understand and clarify needs, documenting requirements and possible solutions when necessary.
  • Manage UK and overseas developers and other specialists, providing line management and ensuring successful team delivery.
  • Oversee the development portfolio and demand pipeline within Azure DevOps, collaborating with other development leaders to ensure it is up to date and accurate.
  • Provide technical input and contribute to wider Digital, Data & Technology initiatives as appropriate.


Knowing you’re right for us

Joining us as a Development Manager, the minimum criteria is that you are an experienced developer ready to move from being an individual contributor to supporting teams or will already have experience leading development teams to build solutions across the development or product lifecycle. It would be great if you had some of the following skills, but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box, we’ll help you develop along the way.


  • Experience as a developer/engineer or development/engineering manager
  • Experience line managing developers/engineers and other specialists and a track record of leading successful teams in delivery of solutions and products.
  • Proven track record of collaborating with business stakeholders and users/consumers to understand their business problems, investigate solutions, and define and document requirements and possible solutions.
  • Knowledge of Azure DevOps (or similar) to effectively support the software development lifecycle.
  • Experience of software development frameworks (eg Scrum, Kanban) and coaching in the effective use of these – you may have experience as a scrum master.
  • Demonstrable process improvement experience.
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies, programme languages (we mainly use C# and Python), and common architectures/patterns.
  • Experience working with or in product teams and/or transitioning to a product-based model.
