RPS is looking for a Director/Senior Director to join our Built Heritage Team who work on many of the biggest and most complicated heritage projects in the UK. The position will be nominally based in our London office but, following our adoption of agile working practices, we will consider candidates based across the country (who could instead work from our Gloucester or Abingdon offices). The successful candidate is likely to need to attend the office at least one day per week.
About The Opportunity
You will be directing an experienced heritage team working on many of the biggest and most complicated heritage projects in the country. We offer an unrivalled range of project experience, working with English Heritage and Historic Royal Palaces, major developers and regeneration leaders, and individual property owners. We offer the opportunity to work as part of major interdisciplinary teams and innovating architects to provide outstanding new developments.
What You Will Be Doing
As one of the directors within the team, you will collaborate closely with our experienced Directors and mentor our junior staff to deliver a high-quality service to our stakeholders and, influencing business development. Your work will include:
- Preparation of Heritage Statements, Feasibility Statements and Environmental Statements
- Expert Witness work, including attendance at Public Inquiries
- Line management and mentoring of junior staff
- Business development, including developing the RPS customer base and cross-selling other disciplines
- Liaison with customers, local planning authorities and relevant stakeholders
- Financial management of projects, to ensure they advance on time and to budget
Who We Are Looking For
- With experience within this sector, you will already be familiar with what we are looking for.
- An experienced heritage professional, with experience of management and business development
- A track record of providing heritage advice on major projects
- Outstanding verbal and written communication techniques
- Experience as an Expert Witness
- A relevant degree or master's degree in the conservation of historic buildings and places
- Associate or Full Membership of the IHBC
- Strong knowledge and interest in historic buildings and places
- Exceptional knowledge of the English planning system
- A full, clean driving licence will be required
