Description
We’re seeking a dynamic and ambitious individual to join our team as an Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager in Southampton. In this invaluable role, you will be entrusted with driving our EHS strategy at our Northam Rail Depot in Southampton, where our skilled teams are overseeing the maintenance and overhaul of South Western Railway trains, ensuring the highest safety and environmental standards. By keeping these trains running smoothly and reliably, our work directly impacts passengers, providing them with safer, more dependable journeys every day. As an EHS leader, you will oversee not only site-specific activities but also contribute to broader safety initiatives, including design, construction, and future projects.

You’ll make an impact by

  • Supporting the implementation of EHS management systems within Customer Services (CS) and Siemens Mobility (SMO), focusing on local processes and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, legislation, and standards.
  • Assisting in the execution of the SMO CS EHS strategy and roadmap, aligned with the broader SMO business strategy.
  • Leading and supporting EHS investigations as required, driving safety improvements and managing incidents.
  • Collaborating with the Senior EHS Manager, CS management teams, support functions, and relevant global interfaces to ensure cohesive EHS practices.
  • Supporting auditing, inspections, and governance, acting as a subject matter expert for EHS processes in your area of responsibility.
  • Identifying and ensuring compliance with statutory EHS requirements in your area.
  • Implementing EHS-related risk management across processes, projects, and products to control and mitigate risks effectively.
  • Ensuring accurate EHS-related reporting for your area and maintaining communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Managing line responsibilities for direct reports and providing cover when needed.
  • Utilising Microsoft Office and other EHS tools and systems to support efficient and effective EHS management.

Your success will be grounded by

  • Influencing and inspiring others to prioritise EHS standards
  • Building strong professional networks across teams and functions
  • Collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Demonstrating strong leadership skills in driving EHS initiatives
  • Communicating clearly and effectively in all forms (written, verbal, etc.)
  • Committing to continuous professional development (CPD) to maintain and grow your EHS expertise
  • Holding a Professional Occupational Health and Safety qualification
  • Being a member of a relevant professional organisation (e.g., IOSH, IIRSM)
  • Demonstrating practical experience in manufacturing, maintenance, or heavy industry environments
  • Having line management experience or a strong readiness to step into a management role
