Sensus is the developer and supplier of FlexNet, the smart meter to smart grid long range radio solution recently selected by the UK government for the GB smart metering communications infrastructure for northern England and Scotland.

The Finance Manager coordinates and administers accounting and reporting activities for the Sensus UK business.

Responsibilities Include

Month End

  • Oversee the bookings to the general ledger, accounts receivables, accounts payable and revenue reconciliation
  • Prepare more complex monthly journals (accruals, warranty, royalty)
  • Balance the books and manage the preparation of income and balance sheet statements
  • Reconcile gross margin between SAP financials and profit by product report
  • Manage month end closing process and Group reporting including financial statements and additional data such as headcount, orders, product mix
  • Prepare quarterly reporting packs to Group

Regulatory Reporting

  • Maintain and improve financial processes required to fulfil internal and external reporting requirements
  • Provide tax and other reports as required by governmental regulations
  • Prepare statutory accounts
  • Key contact to external auditors
  • Manage the preparation of tax returns
  • Review and approve quarterly VAT returns

Other

  • Develop finance personnel in Basingstoke and provide ad hoc technical finance assistance to subsidiary entity in Cambridge
  • Work closely with other Western Europe finance teams and assist if required
  • Review and improve controls for all key finance processes. Update written controls frameworks and narratives for any changes.
  • Use office automated systems to input data, generate reports, conduct specialized research projects and respond to inquiries

Skills/Qualifications/Experience

  • Qualified accountant or significant and proven relevant accounting experience (at least 3 years’ experience in a similar role, and have industry experience)
  • Able to demonstrate career progression and a willingness to learn and further progress with the Sensus business
  • Familiarity in operating various accounting systems, experience in SAP and OneStream an advantage
  • Hands-on approach
  • Well-developed spreadsheets skills (Excel)
  • Team player who works productively and cordially with a wide range of internal and external contacts
  • Problem solving and analytical ability
  • Motivated self-starter with a can-do attitude and comfortable in fast-paced environment
  • Able to work well under pressure, can multi-task and review and change priorities to suit the needs of the business
  • Demonstrable integrity and ethical standards
  • Effective listening, communication (verbal and written)
  • Possess the willingness to learn, improve and adapt
  • Flexibility to meet department operational demands at peak times (e.g. month end)
