OCU is a leading engineering service provider in the fast-growing utilities space, covering power, telecoms, water and more, we are looking to recruit an experienced Financial Controller based in Stockport.
Role And Responsibilities
The Financial Controller will play a key role supporting the integrity of financial reporting for the growing business unit operated out of Stockport as well as acquisition integration and Microsoft Dynamics implementation and stabilisation. The role will work closely with commercial and FP&A teams both at group level and in operating business units to ensure group accounting policies and controls are adhered to.
- Manage and develop the Stockport management accounts team providing reporting and accounting support for the business unit.
- Developing finance and accounting relationships with newly acquired companies, providing training and guidance to adhere to group reporting policies and timeline.
- Responsible for integrity of all numbers and reporting by the business unit.
- Ownership of component submissions to group team, in line with group timetable
- Ensuring reporting follows group accounting policies and controls.
- Identifying areas of improvement and embedding approved changes into management accounts processes.
- Monthly review of balance sheet reconciliations.
- Supporting weekly review of debtor and working capital position.
- Facilitate production and review of subsidiary statutory financial statements, following a standardised template for disclosure requirements.
- Support the budget and forecasting cycle as required by Group FP&A team.
- Support Treasury team in weekly Cashflow forecasting process.
- Responsible for periodic review and release of payments.
- Oversight of VAT returns and provision of accurate tax information to Group Tax Team; supporting on queries.
- Provision of payroll data to Group Payroll Team and review of reports to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Lead the finance integration of acquired businesses, including acquisition balance sheets, alignment of reporting, consistency of accounting policies.
- Key player in Microsoft Dynamics finance system implementation, championing new, consistent and efficient ways of working.
Skills And Experience
- Minimum 5 years post qualified experience (ACCA/CIMA/ACA/CA).
- Strong technical financial accounting and reporting ability.
- Proven experience in financial management roles in fast paced, ideally plc-like environments.
- Highly proficient with a range of IT systems – experience of Microsoft Dynamics is essential. Experience with implementing a new ERP system is a plus.
- Leadership qualities with a demonstrated ability to motivate and develop a team.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and building strong business partnerships.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative, prioritising tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
