Job Description
Leonardo UK Ltd are looking for an Import/Export Controller to work within its Trade Compliance Function to support the import/export of all aspects of UK Export Control and Compliance, as they relate to Leonardo’s business operations in the UK.
As an Import/Export Controller, you will provide a business support service including advice and guidance to Leonardo’s Business and functions to ensure they remain compliant with UK HMRC and trade control laws and regulations.
Reporting to the Site Trade Compliance Manager you will work closely with Project teams within the business and related functions to provide support, including advice and guidance, on HMRC and International Trade Compliance matters. The role will include liaison with the Project Teams to ensure that relevant Leonardo directives and related policies and processes are followed.
The role may involve some national travel and possibly international travel.
Key Accountabilities/Areas Of Responsibility
- Provide advice to local, internal IPTs on HMRC issues, UK and foreign import / export processes to ensure understanding of and compliance with internal and external standards
- Interface with the Despatch function and other functions across the site to provide guidance, respond to general queries and ensure the company operates as required
- Support the preparation for external audits and attend the audits
- Attend internal meetings onsite and at other UK sites to remain up to date and provide information to the wider International Trade team
- Prepare reports for internal and external use
- Make recommendations on process improvements
- Approve exports on the SAP system
Essential
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge
- Understanding of HMRC (Customs) including Tariff Coding, relief regimes such as Inward and Outward Processing regimes
- Understanding of UK Strategic Control regulations including Control List Classifications (CLCs) to be able to validate CLCs on site products using an externally provided tool
- Ability to learn, remain up to date with external changes and regulations
- Confidence to challenge imports/exports to ensure compliance with all requirements
- Ability to present information and articulate activities at meetings or during audit visits, using data and analysis to support line of reasoning
Desirable
- Understanding of SAP system and other relevant internal / external process tools such as ‘SPIRE/LITE’ for applying for export licenses
- Good understanding of trade compliance considerations such as foreign licensing for international support programmes within the aerospace, defence and security sector.
