Reimagine What’s Possible 

The Inspector is responsible for timely periodic inspection of pressure systems and equipment at Air Products and associated customer facilities in the UK, ROI and Europe.

The Inspector shall work within the Air Products In-Service Inspection (ISI) team, and will coordinate with other Inspector(s), members of the ISI team and with AP plant managers and the Customer Engineering group to ensure that all examinations are planned and executed before the legal due date. This will include liaising with the maintenance and plant staff to assist with shutdown examination requirements prior to planned maintenance shutdowns at AP plants.

The successful candidate will have field inspection experience in the industrial gases or oil and gas industry. The candidate must have experience in carrying out UT thickness measurements, Dye Penetrant and Magnetic Particle Inspections.

The candidate must be able to communicate at all levels and be able to produce clear and concise inspection reports in a timely manner.

What will you do?

The goal is to ensure that all the pressure systems that Air Products are responsible for are inspected before the legal due date and that reports are issued that allow the maintenance teams to carry out any actions that are necessary to ensure that the equipment is safe to operate at all times and fully compliant with national regulations.

The equipment to be inspected is mainly located on UK plants, however there will be occasions a requirement to carry out inspections in ROI and mainland Europe.

The inspector will coordinate his work with other Air Products Inspector(s). The Inspector shall report to the Air Products In-service Inspection Department Technical Manager and General manager but will be responsible for proactively managing their own workload and their assigned hours budget on a day to day basis.

How will you do it?

To interface with other Air Products inspectors, plant managers, customer engineering personnel and plant maintenance teams to ensure that all inspections are completed before the legal due date. To carry out inspections in accordance with approved written schemes of examination (WSE) for each system, including UT thickness measurements, Dye Penetrant and Magnetic Particle Inspections. To assess the written schemes and review the inspection intervals to confirm their continuing suitability. To write and issue electronic inspection reports in a professional manner with high quality standards and in a timely fashion. The reports shall include any actions that need to be taken to ensure that the equipment shall be safe to operate. In the case of imminent danger; to inform the plant manager/operator immediately so that appropriate action can be taken. The In-Service Inspection Department Technical Manager shall be informed immediately and issued with a copy of the inspection report so that it can be forwarded to the relevant authority Embody the 4S culture of Safety, Speed, Simplicity and Self-Confidence within and outside Air Products

What are we looking for?

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with all parties
  • Ability to work cross functionally within Air Products
  • Experience of carrying out UT Thickness measurements
  • Experience of carrying out Dye Penetrant Examinations
  • Experience of carrying out Magnetic Particle Examinations
  • Self-motivated and able to manage and schedule own time
  • Ability to produce high quality Inspection reports, including observations and recommendations.
  • Engineering Technician as defined by Engineering Council or equivalent (e.g. appropriate HNC with relevant experience, NVQ Level III Engineering)
  • Experience working within an engineering discipline associated with in-service inspection of pressure systems
  • Good field inspection experience
