Job Purpose:
The role of an installation design engineer is to carry out design, planning and oversight of implementation of installations for projects and changes required to existing installations. Ensuring that installation designs meet the requirements of the NATS Installation Manual and statutory requirements.
This post is primarily based at NATS Whiteley with travel to other NATS sites, in addition some role specific training may take place at other NATS sites.
Duties Include:
Accountable to the Installation Manager for:
- Work autonomously creating installation designs and plan installation activities for assigned Air Traffic Management Technical Systems projects in line with statutory regulations e.g. Construction Design Management (CDM).
- Assist Senior Installation Designers in production of installation designs on larger installation projects.
- Act as project installation contact ensuring an overview of all works is maintained through the project lifecycle.
- Liaise with other NATS sections and units ensuring deployment and timescales are managed and met.
- Responsible for the configuration management of multiple installation databases and documentation sets ensuring all are kept up to date as applicable.
- Project works can take place nationally so ability to travel is essential.
- Ability to annotate building drawings to as fitted installation.
- Have a good knowledge of installation standards and regulations including Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, Construction Design Management (CDM) Regulations 2015 and MOD Joint Service Publication 480 - Manual of Regulations for Installation of Communication & Information Systems.
Qualifications/Skills:
- NVQ Level 4 or HNC in Electronics, Telecommunications or Computer Science or other relevant Engineering qualification or industry/professionally recognised qualifications with a track record of experience in electrical building services within a critical facilities environment will be considered.
- Ideally a Registered Incorporated Engineer or working toward.
- Knowledge and experience of delivering installations covering a range of different projects and contract types.
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of safety critical systems and the impact they may have within our operational environment.
- Proven technical, written, and oral skills are required with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with tact and diplomacy at all levels.
- Ability to manage contractors and ability to work closely with other teams is essential.
- Working knowledge of drawing packages such as AutoCAD.
- Understanding of Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and Construction Design Management (CDM) Regulations 2015 training desired.
