JOB TITLE: INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN
The post is based offshore on the Cygnus platform on a 2/3 rotation.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate as part of an integrated maintenance team, responsible to execute Instrumentation and Control Systems maintenance works, and associated activities, in a safe, timely and quality manner to maximise plant & equipment availability, maintain asset integrity, and achieve business objectives.
- Execute planned and corrective Instrumentation and Control maintenance work.
- Assist other disciplines, 3rd party contractors and vendors, as required.
- The Instrument and Control Maintenance team have responsibility for:
- DCS/ICSS Instrumentation and Control System related roles.
- IT/Telecoms related roles.
- Metering, testing, analysis equipment related roles.
- Specific focal point roles assigned in these areas within the team as required.
- Control of Works, Emergency Response and supplemental roles, as assigned.
- Authorised Isolator for Extra Low Voltage, Control Systems & Instrumentation [CoW/PtW].
- Member of Normally Unmanned Installation Intervention Team, as required.
- Deputise as Lead Instrument and Control Technician, as required.
- Ensure all work undertaken is safe, and in compliance and accordance with statutory Health and Safety Procedures, Maintenance Manuals, specific Working Instructions, Safe Systems of Work (Control of Work / Permit to Work), recommended Safe Working Practices and any applicable temporary Bridging Documents in effect.
- Actively participate in thorough pre-job risk assessments for all non-routine activities, and confirm that they are accurately reflected in the resultant Permit to Work.
- Actively participate in pre-job toolbox talks for all medium to high risk activities.
- Actively participate in pre-job site inspections for all works.
- Ensure all required Personal Protection Equipment is appropriately used.
- Ensure all work party members, especially 3rd party personnel, fully understand the purpose of, and can use, required Emergency Response Equipment.
- Ensure all personnel in proximity of works are fully aware of works planned, associated risks and mitigation measures in place.
- Ensure compliance with established clean workplace practices.
- Ensure all accidents, incidents, near misses and non-conformances are fully reported.
- Under direction, undertake routine inspection, servicing & adjustment of equipment.
- Under direction, support performance and condition monitoring and assessment.
- Review issued maintenance work orders and ensure all required preparations are fully undertaken before commencement of works.
- Communicate with production operations personnel for Start-up and Shut-down of process and utility systems.
- Undertake planned and corrective maintenance on Instrument and Control System equipment, ensuring all works are carried out fully in compliance and conformance company procedures (inc. Process-Utility control & shut-down systems, Fire & Gas systems, IT, Telecoms, Metering, Measuring, Analysing, etc.; as assigned),
- Maintain safety critical equipment in accordance with procedures and regulations.
- Support installation and commissioning of new equipment as required.
- Ensure equipment and systems are reinstated to required condition and performance.
- Support diagnostic activities and analysis to rectify faults.
- First line support for IT and Telecoms issues.
- Prepare comprehensive activity records and logs in CMMS.
- Report works completed in CMMS.
- Update instrumentation maintenance, calibration and certification records in the maintenance management system.
- Maintain Metering Equipment log books.
- Provide input on any modifications made to equipment or systems for updating ‘as-built’ drawing status and reporting changes to onshore discipline engineers.
- Ensure, General Assistants and 3rd party vendors, equipment specialists and maintenance contract personnel onsite conform and comply with applicable rules and regulations, provide guidance as required.
Essential Qualifications And Skills
- Educated to ONC level or equivalent.
- Industry recognised apprenticeship in Instrument / Control Systems Maintenance.
- Appropriate Vocational Qualification or Certification in Instrument Maintenance.
- >2 years’ previous industrial experience in the oil & gas industry working as an Instrument, Control Systems, IT-Telecoms or related Technician.
- Experience, as part of a team of Control and Instrument Technicians, with competence in operation and maintenance covering a selection of the following:
- Facility instrumentation.
- DCS-ICSS Process Control.
- Process shut-down, start-up, control systems.
- Fire and Gas systems.
- Turbine, engine, compressor and generator control and management systems.
- Electronic and pneumatic control systems.
- Information Technology (Hardware, Network, Software systems, Desktop apps).
- Telecoms (Subsea fibre optic, VSAT, Public Address, Alarms, Digital voice and data network, Offshore SOLAS systems, VHF/UHF (FM) VHF (AM) Radio).
- Metering (automated systems, calibration & proving, fiscal transfer requirements).
- Environmental metering systems.
- Small bore tubing, cables and connectors.
- CMMS and Work Management Systems (MAXIMO).
- Condition Based Monitoring.
- Planned Preventative and Condition Based Maintenance.
- General appreciation of IS applications including ability to assist onshore IS staff with first line investigations, software loading/resets and IS administration.
