Brief Description
To develop and deliver effective communication strategies that enhance engagement and awareness across both internal and external audiences. This individual will manage internal employee communications as well as project communications for the Midland Main Line Electrification Project, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and stakeholder expectations.
About The Role (External)
Key Accountabilities
Project Communications:
- Create engaging and informative content for the project’s dedicated webpage and social media platforms.
- Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies to engage internal and external stakeholders, driving awareness and positive sentiment for the electrification programme.
- Collaborate with agencies to produce materials for energisation campaigns, including radio and media promotions.
- Work with local councils, the Department for Transport (DfT), and other stakeholders to highlight the benefits of the electrification programme.
- Handle customer complaints promptly and professionally, ensuring timely resolution and stakeholder satisfaction.
- Provide essential safety information and materials to businesses, local authorities, and schools to support railway safety initiatives.
- Maintain clear and consistent internal communication to keep employees informed of project milestones, updates, and potential disruptions.
- Liaise with media team to develop responses to media queries about the project and to plan releases and other opportunities to publicise the project.
- Monitor and report on project successes and key milestones to project team and route director.
Internal Communications:
- Plan and deliver internal communications to meet deadlines, maintaining tone, language, and style consistency.
- Tailor campaign materials using data and insights to boost employee engagement and understanding of business priorities.
- Develop standards, guides, and best practices to support Network Rail’s internal communications strategy.
- Use project management principles to ensure communications are delivered on time, within budget, and to measurable outcomes.
- Monitor and report on internal communication channels to improve effectiveness.
- Train and support colleagues on key platforms like MyConnect, Viva Engage, and Newzapp.
- Update MyConnect pages regularly to provide accurate and relevant information to employees.
- Analyse employee sentiment on platforms such as Viva Engage and provide actionable insights.
- Maintain channel guidelines to ensure clear and consistent communication standards.
- Collaborate with communications colleagues to align internal and external messaging.
Job Skills, Experience And Qualifications
Essential:
- Education to degree level or equivalent qualification or holds a professional qualification in communications or can demonstrate equivalent relevant experience
- Proven experience in successfully shaping and delivering key messages to various audiences and meeting their individual needs
- Ability to provide guidance on communication issues and develop strategies to support business objectives
- Demonstrable excellent written communications skills
- Ability to produce accurate and effective content quickly and to deadlines
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Experience of Office 365 and SharePoint
Desirable:
- Experience of writing content for a variety of communication channels (eg. intranet, video, Viva Engage)
- Relevant experience in both internal and project communications
- Sound knowledge of strategic corporate communications practices
- Experience of filming and editing videos for both internal and external channels
