The Role
Inzpire's award-winning Mission Systems Division delivers some of the world’s most advanced aviation IT systems from our office in Lincoln. As a result of our continued success and business expansion we are delighted to offer an opportunity for a Junior Functional Safety Engineer to join our award-winning team to support the on-going development of our bespoke mission systems.
Working directly for the Safety and Security Technical Authority, the main duties of the role will include:
- Conducting safety analysis on Company-designed mission support systems, including Mission Planning Systems and tablet-based obstacle warning, navigation and EFB products.
- Producing GECO System Hazard Analysis Reports.
- Producing GECO System Safety Assessment Reports.
- Maintaining the GECO System Hazard Log and producing GECO System Hazard Log Reports.
- Supporting the on-going maintenance, control and configuration management of all documentation and records relating to Mission Systems’ Safety Management System.
The Person
You have a desire to follow a career in safety-critical systems engineering and are motivated by the challenge of analysing complex systems to identify and control safety risk.
As a member of a small highly skilled, multi-disciplined team the responsibilities of the role are necessarily broad and varied and you should be prepared to undertake a comprehensive range of activities that may, at times, fall outside of your specialist field.

Qualifications, Skills And Experience
Evidence of the following would be considered essential:
- A degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. Safety-Critical Systems Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electronic Engineering or Software Engineering), or,
- Experience working in a safety-related role within a relevant sector (e.g. military or civil air, rail or nuclear).
- Has excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Has a propensity for thoroughness, accuracy, and consistency when accomplishing tasks.
- Possesses the discipline required to consistently produce high-quality output whilst satisfying applicable standards.
- Can research issues independently and present pragmatic, business-focused solutions in a structured and coherent manner.
Evidence of any of the following would be considered desirable:
- Some relevant experience within a similar environment or role.
- Experience of software- and safety-related standards such as: RTCA DO-178C, RTCA DO-200B (ED-76A) and Def Stan 00-056.
- Experience of demonstrating the functional safety of complex systems.
- Experience of working with common safety engineering tools and techniques, for example:
- Developing safety assurance cases using goal-structuring notation or claims-argument-evidence.
- Conducting functional failure analysis; failure modes and effects analysis/failure modes, effects and criticality analysis.
- Experience of system hazard log development and management.
- Experience of producing system safety assessment reports.
- Knowledge of Military Aviation Authority Regulatory Publications.
The Location
The post is primarily based in Lincoln but may require the successful candidate to travel occasionally to other sites within the UK, a Full UK Driver’s Licence and/or the ability to travel independently within the UK is therefore essential.
Due to the nature of elements of the role, the successful applicant must be a UK National and may be required to successfully complete National Security Vetting which may require criminal record, security service and credit reference checks; qualification will also normally require a minimum UK residency of at least 5 years.
