About the role:
The Paralegal / Legal Administrator will play a critical role in supporting the Legal Department by reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements. This role will also involve coordinating insurance claims, managing contract databases, and supporting company secretarial administration to ensure accurate record keeping and compliance with company standards.
As a Paralegal/Legal Administrator, it will be your responsibility to:
- Contract Review and Negotiation
- Review, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements, including Non Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), General Terms and Conditions (GTCs), and other customer and supplier contracts.
- Provide commentary and recommend amendments to contracts to ensure they align with Brenntag’s commercial interests and legal standards.
- Facilitate contract negotiations alongside commercial contacts, ensuring efficient resolution and finalisation of agreements.
- Maintain open communication with relevant departments to support business objectives in contract management.
- Contract Management and Database Maintenance
- Operate and maintain the contracts database, ensuring all agreements are accurately recorded, updated, and easily accessible.
- Conduct regular audits of the contract database for completeness, ensuring all documents are signed, dated, and properly stored.
- Assist with training for internal teams on contract negotiation and best practices to promote a collaborative and solution oriented approach to contracting.
- Insurance Claim Coordination
- Coordinate insurance claims management, including liaising with insurers and loss adjusters to support claim documentation and resolution.
- Assist with insurance placement and manage day to day insurance requirements to mitigate potential legal risks.
- Company Secretarial Support
- Assist in administrative tasks associated with company secretarial work, including maintaining records in compliance with statutory requirements.
- Support general compliance initiatives and help ensure adherence to corporate governance standards.
- Legal and Compliance Support
- Support the Legal Department with additional tasks and projects as required, including research on Companies Act and Competition Law.
- Act as a liaison within the business to provide legal guidance and address questions on contract related matters
Your skills & experience:
- Minimum law or business related degree preferred, Cilex or equivalent education in a related field; relevant professional qualifications are advantageous.
- Practical knowledge of contract law, with some experience in drafting, review, and negotiation of commercial agreements.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills with a solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, able to work effectively under pressure and to meet deadlines.
- IT proficient, with experience in managing databases, handling electronic records, and using email for professional communication. Experience:
- Previous experience in a paralegal, legal coordinator, or similar role, ideally within a distribution or commercial business environment.
- Familiarity with claim negotiation and insurance management processes is preferred.
