Job Summary
We are seeking a professional Mandarin interpreter with native-level proficiency in Chinese Mandarin and extensive experience interpreting in High Court hearings or other formal legal settings. The interpreter will provide accurate, clear, and impartial interpretation between Mandarin and English during court proceedings. The role requires the highest levels of professionalism, confidentiality, and linguistic precision, as well as the ability to handle complex legal terminology.
Responsibilities
Provide consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation between Mandarin and English during the High Court hearing.
Accurately convey complex legal arguments, procedural language, and evidence-related discussions.
Ensure cultural nuances are appropriately addressed without altering the intended meaning.
Handle legal and technical terms such as "disclosure obligations," "non-compliance," "evidence," and "procedural directions" with precision.
Maintain confidentiality and impartiality at all times.
Adapt to the fast-paced environment of a courtroom, ensuring effective communication under pressure.
Requirements
Fluency in Mandarin (mother tongue) and English, with excellent oral communication skills in both languages.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years interpreting in formal legal settings, including High Court hearings or equivalent.
Familiarity with the Civil Procedure Rules and other legal frameworks.
Ability to interpret complex legal and technical language with precision.
Exceptional attention to detail, professionalism, and adherence to confidentiality.
Knowledge of High Court protocols and procedures is highly desirable.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification: Accredited interpretation qualification (e.g., DPSI – Diploma in Public Service Interpreting, or equivalent).
Previous work experience as an interpreter in High Court hearings or similar settings.
Experience interpreting in high-stakes, time-sensitive environments.
