Here at Vertical Aerospace, we are on a journey to deliver our 1st aircraft into service by 2028, this requires us to develop our battery to be produced in-house. To achieve this, we need to develop our existing team and add to the skill set we have.
We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Advanced Manufacturing Engineer with a strong passion for leveraging automated assembly and design for assembly (DFA). In this role, you will play a crucial part in driving the battery development and production assembly equipment.
Key responsibilities:
This role will serve as the lead for manufacturing engineering to ensure design for manufacturing is embedded into the design for battery assembly. In this role you will:
- Identifying potential assembly issues and risks, analysing product designs to identify potential problems during assembly, such as difficult part access, complex alignments, and the need for specialised tools or fixtures.
- Defining a method of capturing and scoring issues and risks.
- Inputting design modifications, based on your analysis of the design to simplify assembly, reduce the number of parts, and improve the overall manufacturability of the product.
- Inputting into equipment and fixturing design to aid in assembly.
- Develop assembly processes and procedures, working closely with production teams to develop efficient assembly processes, including selecting appropriate tools, fixtures, and equipment, and defining the sequence of assembly operations.
- Optimising designs for cost-effectiveness by producing assembly costs for the battery pack, considering factors such as labour, materials, and tooling.
- Implementing and monitoring assembly processes into development and production, and oversee the implementation of the assembly processes ensuring that they are followed correctly, and that the product meets quality standards.
- Monitoring assembly performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Actively participate in Design for Assembly, ensuring that products are not only functional and meet specifications but are also manufacturable and cost-effective
- Design assembly process equipment using PFMEA
