London South Bank University are excited to be recruiting for the post of Mechanical Engineering Laboratories Technician, to work within our Technical Support Services team (TSS).
This role will be offered initially on a 6-month fixed-term basis, with potential to become a permanent position.
The purpose of this post is to provide dedicated technical support in the Structures and Strength of Materials, Mechanics of Machines, and Fluids and Thermo-dynamics laboratories within the School of Engineering and Design .
You will be an integrated member of the team who actively assist with, and contribute to the delivery of practical sessions across these areas, including overseeing lab-based experiments, demonstrating investigative technologies, and providing guidance with individual projects, and other experimental activities.
You will have the opportunity to work alongside academics and technical colleagues in the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of research and enterprise projects.
As an integrated member of the technical team, the post holder will work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the Mechanical Engineering laboratories, including appropriate risk management, operational maintenance, compliance with Health and Safety regulations and contributing to high standards of operational practice.
About You:
We are looking to hear from candidates who have the following skills/experience:
- Well-grounded understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles.
- Confidence in passing on this knowledge to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Practically minded problem solver.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills, able to demonstrate initiative in the planning, management, and execution of projects.
- Experience of providing technical support for activities in an HE teaching environment, or professional training environment.
The ideal candidate will be degree educated in in a relevant Mechanical Engineering discipline, plus significant experience of working in a relevant technical / scientific laboratory environment.
