We're seeking an exceptional School Manager to play an important role in the leadership and development of the professional services functions underpinning the School of Medicine, which welcomed its first cohort of graduate-entry medical students in September 2024.
As School Manager, you'll oversee the daily operations of the School while working closely with the Director of Faculty Operations and Founding Dean of Medicine to drive strategic initiatives and maintain the highest standards of medical education. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a groundbreaking initiative within our Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, where we have adopted a 'One Health, One Medicine' approach to healthcare education and research.
In this role, you will lead and develop the School's professional services team, ensuring excellence in student support, programme management, placements, and assessments. You'll manage vital relationships with NHS England and clinical placement providers, overseeing undergraduate medical tariff arrangements and healthcare partnerships. Supporting strategic planning and implementation will be key as you align with Faculty, University, NHS, and Government priorities. You'll also drive the School's GMC accreditation processes, maintain quality monitoring systems, manage School budgets, and provide comprehensive management information to support strategic decision-making. As the School's representative on key committees, you'll build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
About you
We're looking for a dynamic leader with either a relevant degree/postgraduate qualification plus significant management experience, or substantial strategic management experience demonstrating professional development. You should have proven experience in a senior management role, managing diverse stakeholders and demonstrating strong project and people management skills. A sound understanding of financial management in a devolved context is essential, as is experience in strategic planning, delivering change, and building effective teams. You'll need a strong track record of developing professional relationships to support strategic objectives. Experience in higher education, particularly in medical education/health sciences or the NHS, would be advantageous.
