Description
Are you interested in working on some of the UK's most high-profile projects in the field of specialist fire engineering?

Passive Fire Protection (PFP) is a crucial aspect of fire safety in buildings, and getting it right requires careful collaboration, planning, and management throughout the design and construction process.

Data is a dominant element of modern life and storing it is big business. To lead the way in the data centre sector, what is a data centre? In contrast to a lot of projects undertaken at Laing O'Rourke, data centres are generally functional to look at. Owing to their nature, they are highly secure, private and resilient buildings. But, if you were to step inside, you'd witness something truly remarkable and now essential to our modern ways of life. These immense technological warehouses, between one and four storeys tall, provide huge levels of cooling, power and backup generation for vast halls of servers. It is the nature, scale and repeatability of the mechanical and electrical equipment inside that makes them so ripe for transfer to offsite delivery methodology and the digitisation of their design and operation installation.

We are currently seeking a PFP technical leader/manager/engineer to join our team nationwide across prison site locations and help us lead the construction industry with our innovative approach to Passive Fire Protection.

We are looking for technically-minded, quality-focused individuals with a keen interest in fire engineering and an understanding of how buildings and materials react to fire.

This is an exciting opportunity to be instrumental in a rapidly developing sector of the construction industry with real scope for learning, development, and progression.

What will the role look like?

  • Govern approach to PFP for services penetrations and building fabric in line with the fire strategy
  • Early-stage involvement to ensure that all elements of passive fire protection are properly considered
  • Sharing lessons learned with the central MEICA fire compliance team
  • Working closely with the Laing O'Rourke central fire team and a network of like-minded PFP professionals,
  • A key element of the role will be to ensure projects are set up for success from the beginning.
  • Ensuring compliance of BWIC Design and coordination in line with PFP solutions
  • Ensure PFP solutions and components are compliant with the project Fire Strategy
  • As a technical-minded Leader you will call out poor practices and behaviours with respect to design, procurement, delivery and handover in relation to passive fire protection.
  • The role is also required to act as an integrator between project activities and the central fire team, ensuring best practices and maintaining high safety-critical standards.
  • The role requires honesty and transparency to encourage a culture of openness, lessons learned and knowledge sharing, evidence-based technical assessment and delivery.
  • Ensure appropriate coordination & design QA checks
  • Coordinate input to the Health & Safety file

What skills & experience are we looking for?

  • Logical, well organised with the ability to prioritise
  • Numerate, Literate and accurate
  • Establish relationships with key stakeholders as needed to demonstrate governance and assurance, including building control and insurers
  • Focussed on meeting deadlines
  • Good communication and influencing skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and to build and maintain good working relationships

Don't match all the criteria? We are open and always happy to hear from people with transferable skill sets and a commitment to learning.
