Product Engineering at JLR is centred on innovation and creativity. From advanced driver assistance systems to developing the future of electric propulsion, the opportunities to create exceptional experiences for the future of motoring are wide-ranging. You'll work alongside industry experts to drive product strategy, manage programs, analyse performance, and lead transformation initiatives. Exceptional careers that bring world-renowned vehicles to life start here.
What To Expect
We are currently hiring for the position of Plastic Welding SME to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of plastic welding and best practices across thermal management systems within JLR propulsion. This role will involve close collaboration across a number of groups within propulsion systems and suppliers to establish robust processes, define technical requirements, and drive continuous improvement in plastic welding throughout JLR.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, documentation, and implementation of standardised welding processes for automotive cooling system components.
- Work with suppliers to confirm welding parameters through DOE optimisation and validation testing.
- Develop standards to create material selection criteria vs welding process vs application alongside design and verification methods to ensure consistent part quality and performance.
- Work alongside the supplier technical assurance team (STA) to develop a body of knowledge and process control plans to support continuous performance monitoring of weld quality.
- Research and collaborate with component suppliers to develop innovative component designs, enabled by the use of plastic welding processes.
What You’ll Need
In order to be considered for the position, you will need to have had previous experience being responsible for setting technical standards for plastic welding processes, joint designs, materials and equipment, and ensuring that all welded automotive cooling components met stringent quality, durability, and performance targets.
Essential:
- Expert knowledge in welding of thermoplastic materials including ultrasonic, hot plate, vibration, laser and hot gas welding including their respective advantages, limitations, and material compatibility with materials.
- Expert knowledge in part principles for plastic welding.
- Strong understanding of welding physics, thermoplastic materials, and their behaviour during welding processes.
- Expertise in welding equipment and automation systems (e.g., robotic welding cells, custom tooling design).
- Knowledge of both destructive and non-destructive testing methods (e.g., X-ray, ultrasonic, infrared) for weld inspection and quality control.
