We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified and experienced Principal Project Engineer / Project Manager, to join our well-qualified and growing engineering team. What you will be doing.

As our Principal Project Engineer / Project Manager, to oversee diverse energy services projects, including Marine Warranty Survey and TPI/Certification, with a focus on FPSO and subsea installations.

This role requires expertise in offshore engineering, managing multidisciplinary teams, and delivering complex projects while ensuring technical excellence through document reviews, calculations, and reporting. Based in our London office, you’ll collaborate with global teams to optimize resources and drive project success. In addition, you will:

  • Handle project management communication with client and reporting management of resources and deliverables. (Operational offshore phase, installation, offshore, and repair).
  • Lead and manage marine warranty survey projects for FPSO and subsea installation work, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets.
  • Oversee all aspects of project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation, ensuring efficient use of resources and timely delivery of projects.
  • Review and approve engineering documents, including drawings, procedures, and calculations, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., ABS, DNV, API).
  • Review detailed engineering calculations for structural integrity, stability, and dynamic analysis of FPSO and subsea systems.
  • Carry out technical document reviews (procedure and analysis related to vessel survey, load-out, sea transportation, offshore installation) including independent spreadsheets and hand calculations, management/technical meetings, and site attendances with respect to Owner Engineering and / or Marine Warranty Services requirements.
  • Ensure that installation and survey activities meet the required safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Management of projects to ensure the highest quality delivery
  • Supervision and delivery of technical reports and studies
  • Coordinate project execution with internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Manage and mitigate project risks by identifying potential issues early and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Provide technical and commercial leadership to junior engineers and project staff, ensuring the team is aligned with project goals and standards.
  • Facilitate and lead project reviews, audits, and inspections, ensuring quality control and regulatory compliance.
  • Communicate regularly with senior management and clients regarding project status, milestones, and risks.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of engineering procedures and best practices.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support their professional development within the company.
  • Ensuring that the project is delivered in accordance with the agreed project technical standards and current industry codes, client contract requirements and with timely invoicing.
  • Assist with the preparation of bids in conjunction with the Project Director who will be the quality reviewer of the candidate work
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and members of the ABL Group regarding operational and specialist matters.
  • Propose and develop new business initiatives.

The role is based in London, UK and the candidate should have the right to live and work in the United Kingdom. Flexibility and willingness to travel, as well as readiness for onshore/offshore assignments at short notice locally and globally for periods, would be required as agreed with your line manager.

What we are looking for.

The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on energy and offshore industries, with experience in designing, installing, and maintaining critical infrastructure like FPSOs and subsea systems. Experience in leading and managing key offshore projects to successful delivery. In addition, you should have:

  • Hold an engineering degree in Naval Architecture, Structural, Civil, Marine, Subsea, or Mechanical Engineering, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Have extensive experience with FPSO projects, including design, installation, commissioning, offshore operations construction activities, including at-sea (offshore, quayside, or vessel) work, with a strong ability to write clear, detailed, and accurate reports in English.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of offshore systems such as subsea pipelines, risers, mooring systems, floating platforms, and transportation/installation methods (e.g., DNVGL-ST-N001).
  • Be familiar with international codes and standards (e.g., ABS, DNV, API) and strong expertise in applying these standards to Marine Warranty Survey (MWS) and certification work.
  • Have proven project management skills, including leading multidisciplinary teams, managing budgets and schedules, and delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines, delegate effectively, and collaborate across teams.
  • Resilient, self-disciplined, and capable of working independently or in team environments, with a pragmatic, forward-thinking mindset.
  • Fluent in English, with proficiency in French considered an advantage.

Desirable:

  • Proven expertise in offshore survey operations, marine warranty certification, and adherence to SOMWS standards, with a focus on FPSO and subsea projects.
  • Chartered Engineer status (e.g., IMarEST, ICE) or equivalent, with a strong understanding of marine warranty procedures and offshore inspection processes.
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, SACS, OrcaFlex, and a solid background in designing and analyzing offshore structures, mooring systems, and subsea systems.
  • Strong skills in risk analysis, quality assurance, and problem-solving, with a team-oriented mindset to motivate and lead multidisciplinary teams while fostering collaboration.
