We are currently in the market to recruit a Principal Wastewater (Hydraulic) Modeller to join our Water Consultancy team in Scotland.

RPS has several long-term framework agreements with Scottish Water, along with similar framework agreements with a number of major water companies across the rest of the UK. We are looking for a Principal Wastewater Modeller to support the ongoing growth and development of our wastewater teams based in Scotland. The role will be predominantly focused on supporting our Scottish Water frameworks but there may be opportunities to support other clients and frameworks across the UK.

About The Team

The RPS Water Consulting teams are comprised of Engineers, Modellers, and Data Analysts. We support our Water Industry clients with a full range of water-realted services, from strategy development and business planning to solution development, testing, optimisation, and design. This is an evolving industry, providing challenges and opportunities that require innovation, dedication, and teamwork to help us meet our clients’ needs.

About You

Candidates should possess prior experience with projects in urban drainage settings, along with proficiency in InfoWorks ICM and relevant GIS software.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong teamwork skills and the capacity to seamlessly integrate into a team dynamic. Additionally, they will have the chance to cultivate their skills as a mentor and offer technical guidance to other modelling personnel, showcasing leadership in urban drainage contexts while prioritising exceptional client service.

Your Responsibilities

  • Technical development and delivery of wastewater catchment strategies and solutions (including hydraulic modelling and analysis, model use studies, optioneering and cost-benefit analysis studies, to time, budget and the required quality).
  • Ensuring quality of outputs and compliance with standards, specifications and governance requirements.
  • Building, maintaining, and managing strong and collaborative working relationships with clients.
  • Production of bids and proposals.
  • Providing leadership for team members including day-to-day leadership and direction for the team, provision of technical direction and support, workload planning and prioritisation, and supporting staff career development and performance.
  • Management of health and safety, quality and environmental aspects of projects.
  • Fostering relationships and collaboration with wider RPS/Tetra Tech teams across the UK, and potentially globally.
  • Travelling to clients and/or other RPS/Tetra Tech offices may be required.

Skills, Knowledge, And Experience

  • Deep expertise in hydraulic modelling, catchment planning and/or related wastewater infrastructure areas, taking responsibility for delivery of specialist, complex or innovative projects, ensuring client standards and specification compliance.
  • Solid understanding of feasibility and solution development processes and associated engineering and buildability factors.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation and water industry regulation
  • Technical / thought leadership in wastewater catchment planning, industry regulation and legislation.
  • Ability to co-ordinate and manage teams, including line management of less experienced colleagues, improving organisational effectiveness and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Ability to manage (or support project managers to manage) small to large projects/packages and programmes of work.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Expertise using InfoWorks ICM and ICM Exchange.

Qualifications

  • Preferably degree qualified in a relevant technical subject. Postgraduate qualifications are an advantage.
  • Chartered or working towards chartership with a professional institution like CIWEM, IoW or ICE.
