About the Role: We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Design Engineer (f/m/d) to join our Aerospace and Defence business and help us lead the design and development of Microwave and Millimetre Wave products.
In this role, you will be a key member of the Microwave team supporting the design, development, and delivery of high-performance, Fit for Use RF/Microwave cable assemblies for the aerospace industry. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide expertise, technical guidance, and support to various other functions.
This position will be located at our facility in Dundee, Scotland, with work from home days possible as part of a hybrid arrangement, depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs.
Responsibilities:
- Design class-leading RF connectors and Microwave Cable assembly products through the application of material, dimensional, mechanical, and electrical performance technical knowledge
- Ensure product designs meet quality standards, customer specification, Design for Manufacture and process/manufacturing requirements, cost, and other Fitness-For-Use considerations
- Create assembly designs, connector designs and specifications based on Specification Review output, customer needs, and Application Engineer design input
- Partner with Application Engineers and Product Specialists to ensure product design output meets design input requirements and to support in program-related queries
- Co-ordinate cross-functional design-related drafting and modelling activity to achieve timely completion of designs and collaborate with external partners
- Establish and document Product Design rules and test procedures for inspection, in collaboration with Process Engineering, Manufacturing, and other Product Design Engineers
- Partner with Process Engineers and Manufacturing associates as required to support manufacturing of commercialised products through resolution of quality and technical issues
- Participate in and drive New Product Developments
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering with minimum 3 years of RF Product design experience and technical product design (e.g. Product Design Engineering, Applications Engineering)
- Solid knowledge of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply this knowledge to product design and manufacturing
- Demonstrated ability in project execution to initiate, prioritise and drive projects and project phases to completion e.g. concept development & feasibility, product development and continued support for commercial prep and release
- Proven written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work well within a multi-discipline team as well as network and collaborate effectively with a broad range of associates spanning varied disciplines and responsibilities
- Travel periodically (5%)
- Candidates need to have, or be able to attain, UK security clearance
Desired Qualifications:
- 5 years’ experience in RF Connector or RF Product Design
- Demonstrated experience in assembly connector design fundamentals, including materials selection, dimensions, and construction relationships to electrical and mechanical performance requirements
- Strong understanding of RF and Microwave
- Experience of drafting and/or modelling software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.); knowledge of frequency and time domain analysis techniques; an understanding of RF/Microwave simulation software (HFSS, CST, etc.)
- Project management skills and history of hands-on participation in all phases of projects
- Familiarity with AS9100 quality requirements and Mil-Std specification requirements
- Knowledge of typical commercial and military cable/assembly applications
- Familiarity in the use of statistical techniques
