Description
The GMS established in October 2018 is world leading and is the first healthcare system in the world to implement Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) into routine care. This builds upon the NHS contribution to the 100,000 Genomes Project (the Project) and encompasses ongoing genomic projects inclusive of those emerging from the Life Sciences Industrial Strategy (LSIS) and those genomic projects linked to research and development both nationally and internationally.  

The Programme Officer will provide high-quality, comprehensive project management support to the Science and Laboratory workstream within the Genomics Unit.

This role is suited to someone who has a pragmatic approach to managing deadlines and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment within a national NHS team. Applicants are asked to note the requirements for knowledge and experience of laboratory services and genetic testing, as detailed in the ‘person specification’ section.

  • Support teams to ensure that the portfolio of tasks and projects are planned, managed and delivered effectively;
  • Support and inform the targeting of resources by providing high quality support including information and analysis, communications and stakeholder management;
  • Provide high-quality secretariat support to Working Groups and meetings as required, including agenda-setting, drafting correspondence, minute-taking and managing membership;
  • Design and deliver events such as meetings and workshops, working with colleagues and taking a lead on specific tasks;
  • Ensure milestone plans, risk and issue registers and other key programme management documents are relevant, up to date and aligned with corporate requirements;
  • Provide flexible and agile support for projects within the GU, working with colleagues to manage peaks of activity and to ensure that objectives are delivered;
  • Ensure accurate and open communication and co-ordinate with a range of organisations and individuals, researching and drafting correspondence, papers and reports
  • Be a key member of the team as well as supporting effective communication and stakeholder management, both internally and externally.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

To be eligible for sponsorship through the Skilled Worker route you’ll usually need to be paid the ‘standard’ salary rate of at least £38,700 per year, or the ‘going rate’ for your job, whichever is higher.
