Senior Public Affairs Officer

£35,000 - £40,000 + benefits

Permanent

35 hours per week (with flexible and working)

Remote (travel across Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland)

The role

As a Public Affairs Officer, you will be part of our Public Policy team and you will develop ways to maximise the external profile of the CIPD amongst important stakeholders in Scotland, NI and Wales on issues affecting the world of work. These stakeholders include policy makers, politicians, civil servants, business leaders, senior CIPD members, think tanks and other influencers.


What you’ll be doing

  • Devising and implementing engagement strategies on agreed priorities in Scotland, NI and Wales, focusing on government and civil servants, as well as other influencers and stakeholders.
  • Engaging key policy contacts in Scotland, NI and Wales, working with teams across the business to map, analyse and develop relationships with key policy and campaign contacts.
  • Working with key CIPD stakeholders and teams to monitor and, where appropriate, respond to key policy issues in Scotland, NI and Wales and project manage written submissions.
  • Working alongside the Public Policy team, provide support to Engagement leads in the UK Markets team to engage policy stakeholders in the combined authorities in England.
  • Proactively spotting opportunities to promote CIPD policy and influencing in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.
  • Developing and maintain thorough knowledge of the CIPD’s areas of policy expertise surrounding the world of work.


What you’ll need to be successful

  • Demonstrable understanding of public affairs and public policy with experience working in a similar role, some experience of running public affairs campaigns.
  • Experience producing extremely well-written and engaging content for public affairs audiences, using CIPD research and other relevant external sources identified through background research.
  • Campaign planning, stakeholder mapping and excellent organisational skills, plus experience of project management.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
