The Opportunity
Our Diabetes Care business have an exciting opportunity for six Student Scientists to join our Research & Development team for an approximately
12-month internship (starting July 2025) at our site in Witney, Oxfordshire.
Our R&D Department has several ongoing projects, and whilst on placement students will be integrated into one of the teams to support existing and upcoming work. Day to day activities will depend on the nature of the project and team assigned, but typically include prototype fabrication, experimental trials, investigations and testing, data analysis and result interpretation, problem solving, report writing and presentation of the results.
The role also involves regular interactions with other departments including Statistics, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs. Experimental work may involve handling venous and capillary blood samples. To fulfil job requirements, full training, as well as full Health and Safety training in accordance with company policy will be provided.

What are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will be a proactive, well organised individual studying for a
degree in biotechnology, physical life sciences or similar, with an interest in diabetes, biosensors, electrochemistry and materials science. This role would suit a person with good communication skills who enjoys working on a variety of different projects simultaneously.
We’re looking for someone who is passionate around
STEM, and keen to pursue their career in the Medical Devices sector. You should be excited about working in a fast-paced environment within a hard-working and welcoming team.

Our Diabetes Care Business
With a track record of innovation and development, Abbott’s Diabetes Care business designs, develops and manufactures leading-edge glucose monitoring systems for use in both home and professional healthcare settings. We have a Global Centre of Excellence for Medical Devices based in Witney, Oxfordshire. The site has been instrumental in the research, development and manufacture of the FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System as well as exciting developments in the Libre family including FreeStyle Libre 2, FreeStyle Libre 3 and the recently launched Lingo.
