Enabling Functions team as a Regional Environmental Sustainability Manager - 12 Month Fixed Term Contract - South West and you can build something to be proud of.
What you'll be doing
- Development and implementation of the area ES Strategy / Roadmap
across the in line with the UKCS Civils Bridging the Gap Plans (BtGs) - Oversee management and development of the area ES teams
- Plan resource needs and forecast demand
- Ensure a personal relentless focus on driving the adoption of a sustainable
mindset across the group - Interpret sustainability related data and translate these data sets into
meaningful, practical and operational actions for improvements - Support the adoption of these actions by the area projects through the
creation of meaningful sustainability action plans - Support the development of Sustainability KPI and on-going reporting
requirements - Actively seek out, identify and commercially validate product, process,
paradigm and position innovations to help advance the sustainability
agenda within Balfour Beatty - Support the learning and development of the area projects
- Inspire individuals across the group to become more sustainable and to
promote sustainability within their own functions and businesses. - Live the Balfour Beatty Values & personally demonstrate the Leadership
Behaviours - Support compliance with all Regulations and Company Policies &
Processes - Liaise with key customers and suppliers to understand their sustainability
needs and how best to deliver against/support them - Produce sustainability reports externally for customers and internally as
required. - Support effective Sustainability governance through the Sustainability
working groups for forums. - Provide sustainability expertise to the group and BU to support work winning and operational improvements around sustainability
- Support work winning in responding to bespoke sustainability questions and
promoting sustainability innovation - Develop case studies from signature projects that reflect Balfour Beatty
innovation and expertise. - Feed into the BU communications plan with sustainability content and use
communications and improvements to engage staff on an on-going basis. - As part of the sustainability Centre of Excellence, lead and develop
expertise in the UK around a designated sustainability specialist area - Maintain up to date knowledge of UK and global developments on
sustainability.
Who we're looking for
This is a position at a management level for an individual with a proven track record of implementing sustainability within a matrix management structure. The following qualities and experience are essential:
- Exceptional communication and relationship management skills are
required, coupled with a strong ability to influence through others and
support/coach the business stream leadership where necessary. - Comprehensive knowledge and experience of Sustainability and how it
practically impacts on the ‘built environment’, including experience of whole
life costing - The individual will be comfortable managing experts in sustainability
(carbon, water, waste, materials & responsible sourcing, circular economy,
biodiversity, social value, community engagement, BREEAM, CEEQUAL)
and potentially has expertise in one or more areas of sustainability - Programme management experience with a structured approach to
organising and documenting progress - Strong influencing skills, along with budget management experience
- A self-starter with sticking power and resilience
- A passion for protecting our environment, tackling climate change, and
benefiting communities
The following qualities and experience are desirable:
- Chartered Member of the Institute of Environmental Management &
Assessment - Relevant environmental or sustainability degree
- Some experience of working with government departments influencing new
legislation - Experience of working with regulators.
- Experience of identifying and anticipating sustainability trends, business
drivers and UK and global sustainability issue
