Salary (Grade G8): £42,632 - £55,295 per annum, with potential to progress to £62,098 per annum, through sustained exceptional contribution.

Brunel Composites Centre (BCC) is a Cambridge-based research and technology centre that sits between the knowledge base and industry offering high quality research in an innovative environment focused on physicochemical phenomena that take place at the interface of polymer matrix composite materials. A collaboration between Brunel University London and TWI Ltd , BCC has been awarded funding to work with companies across Europe and UK in the aerospace, automotive, construction and engineering sectors.

The Post Aims To Lead And Support Research Linked To

  • Multiphysics simulations for composites.
  • Sensor integration for real-time monitoring and predictive analytics.
  • AI-driven digital tools for material optimization and certification processes.
  • Collaborative work across industrial and academic sectors.


The Role

The work involves leading or supporting in

  • Research Leadership and Collaboration:
    • Act as a technical leader in delivering research outputs within time and budget constraints.
    • Represent BCC at academic and non-academic conferences, delivering impactful oral presentations.
    • Collaborate with external stakeholders and partners on cross-disciplinary projects.
    • Simulation and Modeling:
      • Lead the development of high-fidelity multiphysics models addressing composite failure, damage mechanisms, and structural behaviors.
      • Develop tools and models for virtual certification, integrating data-driven and physics-based approaches.
      • Developing digital tools capable and linking different software interfaces, databases, and platforms, including developing their graphical user interface (GUI).
About You

We are looking for two candidates with;

  • Five years of work experience in multi scale modelling, composite materials research and development. Candidates with strong confidence on key requirements with slightly less experience are also welcome to apply.
  • PhD in Mechanical, Electrical and material science engineering for RF II and RF
