We have an excellent opportunity for a Road Safety Risk Manager to join the UK Health, Safety, Environment and Risk business team in our
North East Area (covering Northumbria, Teeside, County Durham and North Yorkshire)
In this role you will hold responsibility for embedding Arriva’s Bus Road Safety Risk Management strategy and risk policies. As Road Safety Risk Manager, you will be the subject matter expert, providing a hands-on approach to support the business and drive a culture of safety through campaigns and initiatives and providing advice and guidance.
What does the role involve?
- Contribute to the development of UK Bus National road safety policy and standards.
- Drive a culture of safety at all levels including Drivers, Trade Union, Supervisors and Managers through communication and training.
- Produce in-depth analysis on a variety of incident topics, ascertain trends by location/type to create and continue with actions plans.
- Arrange and attend road safety meetings at local areas, working closely with road safety representatives, Supervisors and Managers.
Requirements For The Role
- Candidates will come for a road safety, occupation safety, risk management or insurance background.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Experience of developing, implementing, and maintaining organisational health and safety management, undertaking risk assessments, implement monitoring systems, audit and reviewing performance.
- Must have a Valid UK Driving Licence
- Ability to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of road safety issues.

Arriva UK Bus are currently recruiting for a Road Safety Risk Manager to join the UKB Health, Safety, Environment and Risk in our North East area
(Northumbria, Teeside, County Durham and North Yorkshire). The main purpose of the role will be to hold responsibility for the embedding of UK Bus Road Safety Risk Management strategy Risk policies throughout the above areas to mitigate risk, reduce incidents and increase safety behaviours. As the Road Safety Risk Manager subject matter expert, you will be expected to provide hands on support to the business to drive a safety culture through campaigns and initiatives and give advice and guidance to all employees on all aspects of road risk to ensure the effective management of driver safety and performance.
- Contribute to the development of UK Bus national road safety policy and standards.
- Implement road safety initiatives to improve road safety across a a number of sites/locations.
- Drive a culture of behavioral safety at all levels including Drivers, Trade Union, Supervisors and Managers through effective coaching, communication and training.
- In conjunction with the Training department and managers ensure effective training and coaching arrangements in place to maintain and improve levels of road safety.
- To help measure, collate and produce information on incident rates and trends to target training / initiatives and evaluate effectiveness.
- To mitigate the financial impact of road safety incidents, by working with depot management and Legal and Claims (Transcare) teams to understand lessons learned to further develop local safety practices.
- On a monthly and quarterly basis, or when necessary, collate and produce in depth analysis on a variety of incident topics ascertain trends by type / location to create/continue with an action plan working towards ‘Vision Zero’.
- To arrange and attend road safety meetings at local areas, working closely with the road safety representatives, drivers and Trade Union, Supervisors and Managers.
- To assist local management with incident investigations as and when required.
- Audit every depot Bi-annually and manage any non conformities.
- To deliver bespoke training, where necessary to support the UK Bus national road safety policy and standards.
- Present within or outside the organisation to communicate objectives and action plans for incidents and claims.
- Undertake route and hotspot risk assessments and engagement with all levels.
- Understanding the practical implications of current and forthcoming legislative requirements and driving compliance.
- To be an ambassador for the UKB Health and Safety agenda and to collaborate with other safety team members on projects and workstreams as and when required.
Candidate Specification
- Ideally comes from a road safety, occupation safety, risk management or insurance background/experience
- They will possess excellent communication skills and be able to influence others
- Experience of developing, implementing and maintaining organisational health and safety management undertaking risk assessments, implementing monitoring systems, accident investigation, auditing and reviewing performance
- The ability to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of road safety issues is essential.
- Traveling will be required - Valid UK Driving Licence required.
