We are in search of a dedicated Scientist- Biocatalysis to join our team.
As a key contributor, you will play a pivotal role in our screening, development and production processes, leveraging your expertise in enzymology, assay design/execution and reaction analysis to contribute to the development of innovative solutions in the enzymatic depolymerisation of plastics.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conceptualise and conduct short-term experiments and research activities in support of research projects, ensuring consistency with established methodological approaches and models, adherence to project timelines, and completeness of documentation
- Conduct studies of related literature and research to support the design and implementation of projects and development of reports, ensuring conceptual relevance, comprehensiveness, and currency of information
- Contribute to and assist in the writing and submission of patents, making sure that all data and methodologies have been recorded in a form that is easy to convert to patents
- Communicate to management/Project team developments/progress and results of research activities ensuring that relevant information and issues in the implementation of projects/experiments are captured in as comprehensive and timely manner as possible
- Utilise appropriate and current techniques/protocols in experimental laboratory management to ensure integrity and security of experimental process, comprehensive documentation, and replicability of experimental procedures
- Assist in or lead on writing non-academic grants that the company may apply for at any time
- Adhere to company deadlines whether commercially driven or otherwise, and inform management ahead of time should you think that these targets are no longer achievable
- Keep yourself updated on the latest information in areas relevant to the company’s interest, whether commercial, scientific or otherwise
Essential Expertise And Background
- PhD in chemical biology, biochemistry, chemistry or related field OR minimum 3 years industrial experience
- Knowledge and understanding of enzymology and reaction mechanisms
- Practical experience of performing activity measurements
- Experience with recombinant protein expression and purification
- Familiarity with analysis techniques such as HPLC/LCMS or other product identification techniques
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, working across multiple projects/experiments simultaneously
- Demonstrated problem solving skills
- Experience of following and writing SOPs/protocols
- Ability to plan and execute projects in a timely manner
Desirable
- Experience of designing and developing high-throughput enzyme activity assays
- Familiarity with in-silico modelling
- Previous work in industry, especially in a high-growth startup
- Biocatalytic reaction scaling know-how
- Enzyme immobilisation and flow biocatalysis experience
