As Senior Bid Manager, you will lead, manage and co-ordinate opportunities either direct awards or tenders through to the commencement of the construction stage, ensuring that high quality, competitive proposals are delivered to the customer in a manner consistent with the Balfour Beatty Management System.
This includes:
- Establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with customers, partners and bid teams
- Support business development to win business by developing and managing pursuit plans
- Capable of managing multi-disciplinary projects up to £1Bn
- Capable of working on bids which may last up to 3 years.
Capacity to lead single bids of c. £20m to > £1Bn in value, spanning a variety of contract forms and different client procurement routes (two stage, negotiated, framework) under different forms of contracting structure (build only, design & build, construction management etc) under different forms of contract (NEC, JCT etc) often involving complex, multi-disciplinary work and sometimes involving JV partners. Ability to work on secure sites and comfortable with our target sectors/clients.
This role will be part of our Regional Buildings team in the South, based out of our Langley, Slough office and on-site near Reading.
What you'll be doing
As a Senior Bid Manager, you will:
- Development and Management of the pursuit plan and capture activities in close collaboration with Sales Lead
- Develop the win strategy and proposal plan with Sales Lead
- Identify the resource requirements
- Propose and manage Bid Budget
- Manage the team which has been assembled for the tender / pre-construction stages
- Manage delivery of the tender / pre-construction to time and budget
- Work with the opportunity team to select, appoint and manage consultants required to meet the scheme deliverables
- Chair launch meetings, bid/pre-construction review updates, mid-bid reviews and tender settlement meetings as required
- Prepare and Present Gate papers with Sales Lead and Portfolio Director as necessary
- Oversee bid/tender responses with the Bid Writer(s), ensure bidding plans in place and all necessary reviews scheduled and undertake to suit bid programme.
- Prepare and coach bidding teams to attend customer interviews and give high impact presentations (in person and online)
- Manage compliance with processes (governance) and ensure quality standards are maintained across the team(s), recommending improvements where necessary
- Proactively manage the implementation of the sustainability policy, across the team
- Identify opportunities for enhanced value selling through the use of other parts of the Balfour Beatty business
- Identify risk and opportunities, proactively managing both across the win business stages of the project lifecycle
- Work with the commercial and estimating teams to ensure profit from operations is maximised on each opportunity
- Coach and manage others to ensure adherence to the Balfour Beatty Values
- Manage, coach and develop talented teams to deliver high performance

- Full UK driving licence
- Able to obtain and maintain Security Clearance
