The role
As a Senior Commissioning Engineer - Electrical, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME), training, developing, and managing a growing team of commissioning engineers. Acting as the Shift Lead you will plan, coordinate, and deliver various packages of work against the design authority requirements.
Day-to-day, you’ll be leading a team of Commissioning Engineers to safely plan and deliver commissioning activities across submarines.
- Acting as the shift lead, coordinating the planning and execution of commissioning activities for various packages of work, including the drafting of commissioning documentation and delivery of onboard activities.
- Ensuring that design authority, design intent assurance and delegated authority is applied through all commissioning activities.
- Managing, developing and acting as a technical lead for a team of Commissioning Engineers whilst promoting a robust safety culture and ensuring the use of safe systems of work.
- Providing dynamic commissioning support to fleet time platforms both nationally and internationally as required.
- Ensuring compliance to licence conditions, operating rules and identified operating instructions appropriate to relevant commissioning activities.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week, which has a salary range of £43,935.00 to £53,795.
The Commissioning Group operates an Employee Development Matrix (EDM) which allows for pay progression within Band. The EDM is a performance related competency tool assessing technical and behavioural competence which supports professional development and career progression. The target potential earnings provided the set criteria are met after 3 years in role is £48,865.
The Commissioning Group has the requirement to utilise shift working where the workload demands which attracts 18% Shift Disturbance Allowance (SDA) for a dayshift/backshift pattern.
Essential Experience Of The Senior Commissioning Engineer - Electrical
- Extensive knowledge and experience of commissioning ship, propulsion and reactor electrical systems on nuclear submarines.
- Good knowledge and experience of safe release of systems, control of work processes and safe systems of work.
- Ability to interrogate and understand complex engineering drawings, specifications and documentation.
- Experience of providing technical knowledge and guidance to members of the team, acting as a Subject Matter Expert.
- Experience in planning commissioning activities to ensure that they are carried out efficiently, effectively, and safely.
Qualifications For The Senior Commissioning Engineer - Electrical
- NVQ Level 4 or equivalent in an engineering discipline
- HNC / D with relevant experience
