We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer with significant practical working experience in Development, Quality Assurance and Environment Management within Enterprise Organisations. A natural who can motivate and influence people across business and technology domains, whilst turning test environment requirements into automated secure environment provisioning solutions integrated with our engineering pipelines. Your primary focus is to utilise your automation skills to support the scaling Virgin Money’s Environments as a Service Capability generating the ability to create non production environments on demand.
What you’ll be doing
• Delivering in delighting colleagues and customers using your experience in platform building, including the design, development, architecture, delivery, and maintenance of a cloud platforms
• Providing oversight in the setup and maintenance of scalable, highly available, and recovery-enabled cloud platforms
• Aligning our cloud strategies with broader business goals and digital transformation initiatives and delivering CI/CD capabilities across the organisation
• Using advanced knowledge of cloud technologies, digital transformation strategies, and software development life cycles (SDLC) to leading diverse engineering teams, fostering an environment of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning
• Demonstrating experience of regulated cloud environment to provide SME expertise in evaluating complex delivery risks and issues accurately and objectively
We need you to have
• Strong understanding of automation principles to help us delight our colleagues and customers by enabling ephemeral test environments, leveraging the following technologies: Terraform, Helm, Bash, PowerShell, Azure DevOps, Ansible, Jenkins, Go CD and GitOps
• Full stack development skills in at least one of JavaScript/NodeJS, Python, C#/.NET Core, to advance our digital propositions, demonstrating a cloud engineering mindset.
• Demonstrate excellent experience in containerisation and container orchestration using Microsoft Azure AKS, OpenShift, and Kubernetes.
• Deep understanding of standard IT technologies and services: IP Networking, DNS, Certificates, Monitoring & Alerting.
• Experience in setting technical direction to develop key behaviours and approaches across teams, to increase adoption of ‘shift-left’ mindset.
• Key stakeholders’ engagement experience on implementing and rolling out environment strategies both on prem and in the cloud.
• Experience with proprietary and open-source databases, including SQL & Oracle.
• Experienced in diagnosing complex technical issues.
• Highly effective communication skills working with multiple stakeholders across tribe, squad and departments.
• Knowledge of agile testing frameworks including Test-Driven Development & Behaviour Driven Development.
• Experience working within agile frameworks e.g. Scrum.
• Strong demonstrable experience of working in commercial automated environments including continuous integration, test automation & automated software releases
• Ability to coach developers and engineering teams in integrating the provisioning of test environments into the engineering pipelines
It’s a bonus if you have but not essential
• Multi cloud vendor experience (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Capacity management and FinOp exposure.
